PLEASE HELP ME-NEED TO FIND NAMES OF SOLDIERS BURIED LAST WEEK
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 09:34 PM by cry baby
at Arlington National Cemetary.

My online friend was killed in the helicopter crash in afghanistan...buried last week with honors at Arlington National Cemetary. I have only had contact with him through online conversations - so I don't have his last name.

Would like to find him on a list somewhere that he was buried there...and any stories I can find about him.

Please help me by telling me how to find names of the soldiers that were buried last week. He is from White House Tennessee and his first name is John.

Please, I am beside myself and just can't think straight.

I'm gonna miss him so much!

2. Below is a link to the Robertson County Times with a listing of the
funeral homes in that county (one for White House, Tenn) and this link also shows the obits for the last week or two, I would say. Didn't see the name of John for anyone that would fit this individual.

Hope this helps somewhat for a start.
Good luck

14. The DOD is right up to date w/Casualties
here is their website:

http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/

It has 7 listed as dead on that crash (so does every other resource). Only one 'John' - that's the guy from New Jersey, but he was stationed at Fort Campbell, TN.

I don't think they would have released him for burial without DOD notification - so I'm at a loss?

8. all of you guys are so good to help me...i am not good right now
just learned of his death this afternoon.

He was a Lt. Col. in the army.

I love you guys so much...I used to tell him about this group of people here...he was conservative, but he was such a good man anyway...I was trying to convert him from the dark side.

and here is icasualties listing of Afghanistan news:

http://www.icasualties.org/oef/news.aspx

no-one fitting your description shows up. No-one is listed as dying from that crash other than the original 7

Do you think maybe he did not give you his real name and rank?

How do you know he was killed as a result of that crash, died on the 21, and was buried at ANC last week without having a name? What are you basing your info on?

Edited on Sat Mar-10-07 01:50 AM by cry baby
I've been in contact with my friend from Iraq/Afghanistan...and his wife here in Tn. She wrote me on the 19th and told me he was hurt and she left to go to him. Her sister wrote today and told me of his death. I just never thought to ask them for their last name...how stupid am I???

It was his wish that I be the one to tell our online friends of his death. I need details and I am so tired of waiting for an email from someone from his family.

28. Seven were killed outright on the 18th
John Quinlan died the next day.

Here is the Arlington Cemetery list of all from Afghanistan:

http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/enduring-freedom.htm

and the details on John Quinlan, buried last week:

http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/jaquinlan.htm

everything points to his being your friend except the rank and having sons. Is your friend's wife's name Julie? Maybe he just fudged a little when he gave you those personal details.

15. Here:
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 10:56 PM by frogcycle

http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=42772&archive=true

Chief Warrant Officer John A. Quinlan, 36, was assigned to the same elite unit. His father, Robert Quinlan of New Jersey, said John was piloting the helicopter and radioed a distress message shortly before the crash.

Quinlan joined the military shortly after graduating high school in 1987. He had served in Iraq and Somalia, and had been a Marine before transferring to the Army to fly helicopters.

His father said Quinlan was planning on a leave to Tennessee next week to celebrate his birthday with his wife and daughters.

I thought the NJ/Tn confusion was the problem

The first link I posted gives bios of everyone killed in that helicopter crash.

No Lt. Col.

There were 14 wounded - possibly he died later? I've not seen any press release of additional fatalities.

There is still one unidentified Afghanistan fatality:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6377669.stm

On Feb 20:
"An American soldier has been killed in fighting in eastern Afghanistan, the US military says.

The soldier was killed during "combat operations" near Naray in Kunar province, it said in a statement released in Kabul. "

I saw that release, have it on my website as a "pending notification", have yet to see a formal DoD release.

18. His Unit:
Unit: Army, 2nd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Ky.

I believe he was in this unit...this is the unit that another soldier was in when killed in the afghanistan heli crash.

30. When you find out, will you let us know?
like a couple of others, I spent over 2 hours searching through every website that I could find mentioning the fatal crash.

What I have learned is that 7 died in the crash, one the day after (the only 'John'- the one with 3 girls). Five of the deceased were from the same regiment as your John - the 'Night Hawks' and were all from Fort Campbell Kentucky. It is presumed many of the injured were too. Fourteen were injured, many of those were airlifted to Germany - no further mention of the injured is noted and no further fatalities recorded.

I am so sorry we couldn't help, and I cannot imagine how sad you feel right now. Please let us know when you find out what happened to him - you can PM if you prefer.
Janny
