Happy 39th Anniversary Woodstock Music & Arts Festival!!!! |

For those DUers who were lucky enough to be there, share some memories. For those of us just a tad young at the time, what impact did it have on your lives?

I was there. Hitchhiked in with sweetheart of yesteryear. Beyond everything that happened over those amazing days, the most vivid memory that remains is of standing on the hillside looking out at the multitudes of people -- the Gathering of The Tribe.

Deeper appreciation of the spiritual rhythms characterizing the unfolding destiny of humanity.
Take heart. The republicon disease infecting America shall, as with all else other than the One Essential, pass.

5. Thanks for responding, Spiral |

Aside from the first album I ever bought, I still think its effects are HUGE! To this day. As for the Republican disease, I hope you're correct in it eventual passing. I have my doubts.

That weekend I was staying with cousins in Flushing Meadows and kept hearing commercials on the radio and the DJs talking up the big music fest that was going on that weekend. My cousin was curious in going...going up that Saturday. That morning we turned on the radio (probably WABC) and heard that traffic was backed up for 20 miles from the site. We saw the local TV coverage instead...pretty hilarious as they sent up these straight-laced reporters (horn-rimmed glasses and crew cuts) with all the singing and dancing going on behind them. One FM station somehow got some bootlegs of Country Joe (the infamous Fish cheer) and ran it uncensored...guess the bosses were asleep that weekend
I did meet several friends who were there and it wasn't the romantic party history makes it to be. I remember them complaining about the crowds, mud and they couldn't see or hear anything. But my bets are they now tell their kids and friends they saw Jimi close-up.
