Did you know that Newt's first wife was one of his high school teachers?
As a high school student -- precocious, lonely, overweight -- Newt secretly romanced his geometry teacher, a buxom, matronly woman named Jackie Battley. The furtive romance with his 24-year-old teacher included nighttime sessions in the back of a car in remote areas of Fort Benning, Ga.

Once, Newt and Jackie were so worked up, they got their car caught in a tank trap on the military base and had to call his best friend to rescue them before a daylight exposé, according to the friend's widow, Linda Tilton. Defying his stepfather, a stern Army colonel, Newt pursued Jackie, married her and promptly had two children.

snip -

The most notorious incident in Gingrich's marriage -- first reported by David Osborne in Mother Jones magazine in 1984 -- was when he cornered Jackie in her hospital room where she was recovering from uterine cancer surgery and insisted on discussing the terms of the divorce he was seeking.

Shortly after that infamous encounter, Gingrich refused to pay his alimony and child-support payments. The First Baptist Church in his hometown had to take up a collection to support the family Gingrich had deserted.

This is an older article, but full of juicy stuff. Newt hasn't exactly been a paragon of virtue.

2. old old news....leave Newt alone; concentrate on rudy if you're doing
research.

he's the threat, because the MEDIA are going to leave him alone. the pugs are going to have to eat each other alive. the more of the TRUTH about Rudy that gets out, the better. concentrate on him, not the others. they're all much more beatable than he is.

in the last FOURTEEN elections, the pug who was ahead in the primaries at this time has WON the nomination. that was on the news today.

and how FAR ahead is Rudy at this point?

12. Rudy has trouble of his own...The Firefighters Unions are going
after him and I suspect there will be other unions going after him. The cleanup in NY wasn't about the Victims and their families, it was about Rudi obeying his Fuhrers commands.

I think we should go after each and everyone of their candidates as if our lives depended on it. We can not ignore one for the sake of the other.

I understand what you are saying but don't underestimate Newt...the rat bastard was the mastermind of destroying Clinton over an affair...even though at the same time he was having an affair. Anyone who has the balls to do this is dangerouss and should be addressed.

Anyhoo...Bill Mahr is coming on...gotta go.

22. I agree with you,
I think rudy will be dropping down soon, not only because of the media but because Newt will see to it. He is the king of dirty tricks. But for me, I will drop anything I know about any of them into any post I can.

Rudy failed the NYers. Lied about the safety of the area surrounding the towers. Failed to supply the firemen and police with needed equipment. Police brutality grew under his reign as mayor. Minorities suffered more from this brutality. Police picked up the homeless and they were transported by bus, train, and in a few cases by airplane to other cities. (Supposedly there were so many NYC homeless people showing up on the beaches in Miami (lost and confused) that the mayor there protested it to rudy.) marriages and etc

Newt is a womanizer and adulterer. Writes sexually explicit novels, some say these are based on his own exploits. Children, like rudy's want nothing to do with him (the last I heard). Has lied and mislead the people repeatedly, persecuting others for what he himself was doing. etc

Don't know much about the others, but you can imagine what they have done.

38. I agree, especially since Newt is just testing the waters,

has not announced he's running. Of course, it IS worthwhile to remind people of these stories if it stops Newt from running. But it's REPUBLICANS who need to hear this stuff, not DUers.

OTOH, it seems many DUers don't know Newt's sordid history, even though it all came out years ago.

7. Thanks for the link. Wish I could find New Yorker bio from fall 95, I think
It was a dilly! If ANYBODY has an online link for THAT expose, the link would be gold these days! Talked about how he hurt then failed to support the first wife AND how he modeled his methods after Joseph Goebbels. ALL those up & coming GOP candidates he taught went on to be the legions of bush-bots who allowed this nation to be sold to the corporatists.

Newt gives reptiles a bad name. He is lower than a barnacle on a whale's belly.

Gads, wish I still had the hard copy of the New Yorker bio. It really took the little squirt down.

And let us NEVER forget him shutting down the government re budget to payback Clinton for not letting him sit up front in the big plane on the way to that funeral. Clinton had to use the flight time to write his remarks for state funeral and Newt the Cute was in a snit at having to ride with the press instead of in the office with the President.

The man is a real piece of work.

Newt's snit was also about having to exit AF1 by the back. Newt was complaining abouthow disrespectful Clinton was for having then 97 or 98 yr old Strom Thurmond exiting by the back of the plane. I do not recall Sen Thurmond making such a fuss.

Edited on Sat Mar-10-07 08:00 AM by Divernan
Connie Bruck. "The Politics of Perception" The New Yorker. October 9, 1995.

I saw a reference to it, and tried to get it via The New Yorker archives on line - but with no luck. Maybe someone else here can find it.

On edit: found this note:

Connie Bruck has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1989; she frequently writes about business and politics. In 1996, her profile of Newt Gingrich won the National Magazine Award for reporting, her second. Bruck is the author of Master of the Game and The Predators' Ball. She lives in Los Angeles.

I'll keep searching for it.

The teacher does sound like a predator, but when you hear the whole story it is hard to know if she was the aggressor or if he was using her. I believe she supported him for quite some time. Anyway, she should not have slept with a student, but.....

41. I think it's code for "overweight" because it said

"buxom" and "matronly" so they covered (ahem!) her "big breasts" with "buxom." Then again, the writer might not really know what either word means. This morning CNN was reporting that Al Sharpton's ancestors were once owned by Strom Thurmond's descendants !!! They repeated the same piece over and over so nobody's caught the mistake yet.

Matronly means "like a matron" and here's what Merriam-Webster online says for matron:

matron

1 a: a married woman usually marked by dignified maturity or social distinction

b: a woman who supervises women or children (as in a school or police station)

c: the chief officer in a women's organization

2: a female animal kept for breeding

and newt is with # 3. And there are numerous affairs that did not end in marriage. I have heard that he is quite the smooth talker, and although I think he would have had to poke my eyes out and hold me hostage for me to be with him, I can believe that other women would fall for his act. Mind you, I am not that much of a looker, but something about him makes me sick at my stomach to look at him. :puke:

I'd take Bill over newt any day. That is not the point. Bill is a cheater, that has been proven. But people that know newt have said that it always surprised them the number of women that he got. Or was that rush? Can't tell them apart sometimes. ;-)

edited to add: Clinton cheats but he cares about Hilary and Chelsea in his own way. newt cheats and cares about no one but himself.
