No Woman Will Have The Right To Choose - John McCain.com
According to John McCain’s own website, he will be running a presidency where women will not have the right to choose. In other words, if you want to have an abortion, it would be illegal.

johnmccain.com/ - Overturning Roe v. Wade

"John McCain believes Roe v. Wade is a flawed decision that must be overturned, and as president he will nominate judges who understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench........"

1. i'm 62 & when i was 18
Edited on Mon Aug-18-08 06:18 AM by grannie4peace
i had an illegal abortion. it was the second time i had sex. & the guy disappeared. my father had been warning me for 3 years that a person got vd from doorknobs & that he would never accept an illegitimate child into his house. so at my stepsister's house on the bathroom floor with a turkey baster the deed was done. i was told to walk until i started bleeding. that finally happened & then my stepsister took me home & i crawled into bed to wait for what i did not know. for hours i cramped and worried if i'd have to tell my father & go to the hospital. i finally passed out. in the morning i stood up & blood spilled out of my body. i ran to the bathroom & expelled the fetus into the toilet. i stared down into the toilet & could see the shape of a little human there. i flushed the toilet & for years had nightmares of my father finding the fetus stuck in the plumbing..... it was more than tramatic.... but to this day i feel i made the only decision i could. after that experience i stayed on birth control for over 10 years. when i think of other women having to make a decision to have an illegal abortion this is what i think. a woman has enough to carry by having a legal abortion, especially when men are such assholes about sowing their wild oats. abortion is nobody else's business unless they take the responsibilities for the child. end of story

2. I'm so sorry for your pain. We're probably of a similar age.
When I got pregnant at 18 I couldn't find an abortion and I was afraid to stay at home (our fathers sound similar). I ended up running to the other side of the country, penniless and alone. By some stroke of good luck an elderly lady befriended me and saw me through the nightmare, guiding me to an adoption agency. The whole thing was the most painful experience of my life and I wouldn't wish it on any young woman today. To this day, I'm haunted by the child I never saw. Is she alive? Was her childhood happy? Does she hate me? Sometimes it feels as if my entire life revolved around this one, terrible time. McCain is an idiot.

3. hi :)
one of my best friends in high school gave up her baby also. i remember watching her suffer wondering what happened to her little girl. i think that was one of the facts that pushed me to have the abortion. i knew if i carried that baby to term it would be hell to give it up. it's nice to talk to you & thanks for the post.... O8) :hi:  there are parents & children who get in touch with each other after years of not knowing--- can you do that? closure is a good thing.i send you the energy of love to help heal any leftovers that may haunt you.... we are sisters.... that's a sweet thing

8. I know it's strange, but I've never wanted a reunion.
How do you explain to another human being you gave them away to a stranger? I don't want younger women to be faced with what we went through. It struck me after I posted the response to your story that this is the first time I've spoken of this after more than 40 years. Pain gets buried very deeply in the soul.

5. This story will be repeated, sadly,
if states make it individually illegal. I appreciate you telling your very personal story.

4. He doesn't say it will be illegal.
He says the question would be returned to the states.

That's a terrible idea, but it's also not "making it illegal". I'd assume a large chunk of the Bible Belt midwest might make it illegal there. I could be wrong there.

I see 3 groups, not two.

1. Uphold Roe vs. Wade
2. Overturn, based on states rights.
3. Overturn, because it's "immoral".

I believe a substantial number of those in category 2 still think abortion is a legitimate alternative, and would support it.

7. "Legislating From The Bench"...
There's a GOOP codeword that needs to be attacked...and realized for what this means. We're seeing it happen right now. Their ulimate goal is to negate the judiciary...turn it into a political tool that would remove many rights and the system to address those problems. We've already seen the total disregard repugnicans have toward Haebus Corpus and their hatred of the American people...a jury of peers (Grand Juries scare the shit out of them), "trial lawyers" and the entire concept of due process.

10. "Government Enforced Pregnancy" is a bad thing?
"I'm from the government and I am here to help".

' "WE" know what is best use of your body. '

"You WILL be the vessel for the seed of man, OR ELSE!"

"The rights of the Fertilized egg is always superior to the woman who carries it"

11. McCain has zero respect for women
This is just further proof of that. Any woman who votes for McCain is, quite frankly, a traitor to her gender.
