Rain is falling in almost the entire state of Florida. Expect serious flooding.

7. Jeff Masters called this system 'The Joker'
days before it was named. He was right. It was a great rain event in the Caribbean and we needed the rain.

6. Somewhere I have a shot from Frances in 2004 that was about twice as big across
The eye was sitting east of Tampa and the outer bands extended from Cuba to Georgia.

The above image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on board NASA's Aqua satellite shows Hurricane Frances over Florida on September 5, 2004. Click on image to enlarge. Credit: NASA.

Guess it did cover all of Florida eventually. It was way stronger as well.

11. Yes, and remember, that was the same year we had Charley and Ivan
Then Jeanne also hit, right where Frances had come in earlier in the season. And those are only the hurricanes that hit Florida. We also had tropical storm Bonnie hit and dump loads of rain.

With this, a total of 8 tropical cyclones reached tropical storm status during the month of August, beating the record of 7 set in 1995. 2004 also had a very high Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) Index, mainly due to Hurricane Ivan, which has the second highest ACE for an Atlantic hurricane, with the 1899 Hurricane San Ciriaco being the only Atlantic hurricane to have a higher ACE than Ivan. Finally, 2004 was notable because of a total of five tropical cyclones hitting the state of Florida: Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.

12. Too bad they put down all that asphalt & concrete
Water soaks into the soil much better when it's not covered up..

The Everglades (what's left of it) can sure use the water, though..
