19. Yep
Biden is there to distract. Clark is a perfect
fit, a world class intellectual with a resume
second to none. He'll slice and dice the damn
fool Republicans.

24. I thought that he was going to be visiting in Europe?
He said that he would be back by Thursday to attend the end of the Democratic Convention.

3. Hey, first guess of the poll! I Say Kaine.
Because Kaine underlines Obama's message, instead of detracting from it, and because there is no spot for Kaine to speak at the convention - short shrift for the earliest of Obama supporters, or as planned because of Kaine's VP spot?

7. I think Richardson would be a shoo-in
People are arguing that experience (like Biden) would win people over but since Obama's focusing on the 50-state strategy, it would help him to pick one from a weak Republican state (like New Mexico is) and Richardson fits the bill. Not only he might put New Mexico in play but he might even embarass McCain by helping win Arizona for Obama.

If JFK comparisons can be apt here, remember JFK picked LBJ because of him being from the south. Obama has Caroline Kennedy on his VP-vetting team and she probably drew from her father's experiences when discussing potential VP candidates.

All that aside, I think Obama would be really stupid to pick another senator (sure Johnson was a senator as well as Kennedy was) because the Democratic majority in the Senate is quite slim. If we pick up Senate seats in this election, good! However, think about this: when Obama wins, it'll be one less senator for the Senate. If he picks a senator for the VP slot, that'll be two less senators for the Senate.

Currently we have a senate majority of 51 (with 2 indys caucusing with us) against the Republican's 49. If we pick up more seats to add to our majority... let's say we get 6 more seats in the senate. That'll be 55 democrats versus the republican's 43. We lose two senators if Obama picks another senator (53 to the republican's 43) and if Leiberman decides to caucus with the republicans and Saunders sticks with the Democrats it'd be 54-44. We would have to hope that two Democrats get Obama's and his VP pick's seats, but that's hardly a trouncing of republicans in the Senate though.

My second choice for VP is Clark, well known in the south and can quite dull McCain's "military superiority" quite a bit.

13. Minner and Blagojovich would both appoint Dems to replace Biden and Obama
So we'd have no net loss of seats.

23. Though that's probably Feingold's biggest barrier, since I think Wisconsin requires special election

to replace leaving senators. Too bad. I would like Feingold in the mix too, but I think I go along with the choices of either Richardson or Clark. I think they are both non-outsiders, and would help with attacking the weaknesses of McCain's campaign. And I'd like to think they are less "corporate" than some of the others being considered here.

It's not Biden, he said so today.

But who knows? It could be any one of them.
