It is about obvious inequality in the uniforms for purely tittillative purposes.

Yes, "tittillative" is now a word. Enjoy!

1. Actually, it's just plain sexist to dress the men and women so differently. nt

4. I was going to dispute what you said because obviously people
can enjoy watching women in bikinis without being sexist. On the other hand, would anyone not involved in women's beach volleyball pay any attention if the women were wearing t-shirts and shorts? Clearly, there are people who enjoy this as a sport. I think most of the media buzz comes about because it involves women in bikinis.

To prove my case, I present this photo:

Admittedly, I am not a sport fan of any type. I don't think I watch 3 hours of sports in a year. But I am well aware that there is a competition in Men's Basketball. Until I googled it, I was only guessing that there was a Women's Basketball competition!

15. I'm sure men would wear bikini's, but the problem is we have balls.
And they move in non-flattering way when your doing sports. Although, some men still wear em. And that's when we all lose.

6. Methinks the "Eye Of The Beholder" virus is running amok on DU these days.
As a male who regards high heels, make up, and a plethora of female fashions totally neurotic, I have long observed that the Fashion Police are almost 100% female instead of male. I've never heard a male ask if an outfit made his ass look big. Anyone asking "did you SEE what she was WEARING?" is almost always female.

I suppose that's just coincidence, though.

7. Uh huh.
I'm guessing the mens team have shirts as opposed to bikini tops on account of they don't need athletic support for their breasts, but they still need some sort of top for: 1. sun protection, 2. I.D., 3. logo placement.

And they're wearing shorts instead of speedos, because two different people designed the mens and womens uniforms, and they weren't interested in the loony complaints of the pearl clutcher brigade. There may have been athletic support issues below the belt to consider as well.

I'm not the one getting upset at what some women choose to wear.

12. Is any thought ever given to the preference of the athletes themselves?
The female beach volleyball women all say they prefer the two-piece outfit as due o the tmperatures while playing, issues with diving into sand, etc...

I get tired of all the prudes who take to the airwaves about this lately...

18. They just don't know they're victims. They MUST be "saved"!!
Here comes the Dudley Doright Battalion to the rescue of the Poor Nell's (excuse them as they tie them down to the railroad tracks first).

22. The women picked their uniforms. No one forced them to choose 2-piece suits.
It's about comfort, not titillation. By your logic, the new uniforms worn by the women's swim team are an attempt by the religious right to foist burqas on the team. Small steps, of course. This olympics the 3/4 length suit, next a skirt, then a veil, etc.

As for the men and their shirts and shorts, maybe they're not as comfortable in their own bodies as these women. Or maybe they just like cotton. Who cares?

23. This may not have anything to do with anything, and it's just my opinion (YMMV)
and, frankly, I don't know if the women's beach volleyball players are being objectified or are unaware that their choices of uniforms is subjugating them or what not (I do think that the American women need a little bit more, or even some, body fat on them, but that's a whole other discussion).

What I do know is that I am not in the least bit interested in seeing men playing jumping-about sports in bikini bottoms.

In my experience, women are just not as into the visual stimulus of the opposite sex's genetalia the way men are. Now, don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a well-built male torso (muscular chest, broad shoulders, well-rounded deltoids, etc.), but as far as their "package" goes, for me it the less visible the better. I like something to be left to the imagination.

So, count me out of the "if-women-are-wearing-skimpy-then-men-must-wear-skimpy" side. A muscular-upper-bodied man in knee-length beach togs is just fine with me.
