An apology and thanks
Last night I posted a thread basically about dumb voters, and suggested a test similar to the one given to new citizens, in the hope of having a more informed electorate. I got schooled and scolded. Today, after rereading it, I realize I was wrong, and that it was me that was uninformed. I posted before I thought my point all the way through. A sincere thanks to those who made me think, and an apology to any I offended.

3. I have had this "discussion" with people before. IF voting is a right that should not be
restricted (e.g., by a knowledge test), then why do we not allow children, the "legally" insane, and other groups to vote.

In all the arguments I get about not infringing on the right to vote, no one has ever answered my question. I am still waiting.

Having missed your thread, what was the main argument against having an informed electorate?

4. Racial discrimination ala Jim Crow laws
Add felons to your list of those who shouldn't be restricted to vote. There are, as you pointed out, restrictions already on voting.
It's too bad that the dumbest people can vote right along with the well-informed, but after reviewing last nights responses, I can see no truly Democratic way to remedy the situation. One third of Americans still think Saddam bombed the trade towers. Yikes!
