http://tvdecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/19/rachel-maddow-to-replace-dan-abrams-on-msnbc/">Excellent development:

Just in time for the closing rush of the presidential election, MSNBC is shaking up its prime-time programming lineup, removing the long-time host –- and one-time general manager of the network — Dan Abrams from his 9 p.m. program and replacing him with Rachel Maddow, who has emerged as a favored political commentator for the all-news cable channel.

The moves, which were confirmed by MSNBC executives Tuesday, are expected to be finalized by Wednesday, with Mr. Abrams’s last program on Thursday. After MSNBC’s extensive coverage of the two political conventions during the next two weeks, Ms. Maddow will begin her program on Sept. 8.

MSNBC is highlighting the date, 9/8/08, connecting it to the start of the Olympics on 8/8/08, as a way to signal what the network’s president, Phil Griffin, said “will be the final leg of the political race this year.” He added, “We making that Rachel’s debut.”
An hour of Olbermann, then an hour of Maddow. That's going to make watching MSNBC so much more fun.

Congrats to Rachel Maddow.

27. Most excellent news.
I'm so happy for her and have loved her from the first time I heard her on the AAR morning show with Chuck D and Liz Winstead.

And then when I read about her background, I fell that much more in love with her.

only TV voice that's been covering the Don Siegelman story, He had also been keeping pretty close tabs on the Atty firings story.

We can't afford to lose a single voice that gets real news out there....

on edit: I am totally gay for Rachel and am MORE than delighted that she's finally getting more airtime...

6. I wish they'd tell us where Abrams is going
and I sincerely hope he'll bump Hairball out of place.

Matthews has been very ill. He might be ready to do some sort of part time gig.

It would be great to have three left of fascism voices on together during prime time.

8. Tweedy is ill?
That's interesting because I understand that he has eyes for the US Senate (ridding ourselves of Arlen Specter).

If true, I'm not sure it is wonderful for PA, but it beats having the Specter in place. Mr. single bullet theory has been untouchable through his powerful senate position.

I think Dan Abrams will still be around. He loves himself too much. :-)

I'll make some time to watch Rachel. She's great on tv (and radio, etc).

4. Wonderful! Dan Abrams' show is so lame. Rachel is so great.
But they need to get rid of all of the trash, particularly prison shows and true crime.

13. Congrats to Rachel but why couldnt MSNBC replace Tweety with her?
I like Dan Abrams' show. Countdown and Verdict are the only 2 I currently tape. I'll of course tape Rachel's new show but sure will miss Abrams' show.

14. So, AAR loses another host...?
Seems like they're going to be hurting for staff, unless they suck it up and offer Sam Sedar his weekday slot back.

16. No, she said she's keeping both her radio show and her current time slot.
As she said, if others can do both, so can she.

17. It's About Time

I wrote to MSNBC a few times and told them I will not watch any show on MSNBC but Keith Olbermann. I said why don't you morons get more anchors like Keith, then maybe someone will watch your shows. Maybe they took my advice, who knows, I just know that it's about damn time they added a real liberal.

23. Yes! I hope MSNBC plans to add Rachel's show to the podcast list. (Link inside)

Looks like you can get both audio & video podcasts of most of the MSNBC news shows, including Countdown (woo-hoo!), free of charge.
