Scott McClellan to Obama: 'Please Don't Probe Me'
Scott McClellan to Obama: 'Please Don't Probe Me'
Posted by Jill Hussein C., Brilliant at Breakfast on August 21, 2008 at 7:34 AM.

Scott McClellan advises Obama, in an interview with my colleague Daniel Libit, not to investigate the Bush administration — because it would, McClellan says, damage Obama's image. (Not that former Bushies have anything at stake in that choice.)

That's a sleeper of an issue that, if Obama's elected, could blow up into a major one in unexpected ways, as some foreign governments suggest they'd arrest top Bush administration officials on torture charges.

When asked what advice he would give to a President Barack Obama or Democratic Congress on the matter of handling former Bush officials, McClellan speaks now of the perils of probing the past.

“If Obama were to win,” he said last week, “that would be an issue his administration would have to face early ... because he’s pledging to be a uniter, not a divider — without saying those exact words we campaigned on in 2000. He’s pledging to change the way Washington works, and if Congress were to pursue that, it would be very divisive.”

He continued: “That could be very problematic for his presidency right off the start.”

2. How about a "truth and reconciliation commission"
Have investigations and clemency despite the heinousness of the crimes. At least the real story would come out.

6. Exactly what I have posted many times over the last 5 years. It makes perfect sense
and it would give ALL Americans the exact same information instead of the nurturing of storylines directed at specific constituencies.

There should be a full month of nothing but open book testimony about the last few decades of US actions that contributed to the global terror issue and the middle class damaging economic manipulations.

4. How Obama does it.
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 10:01 AM by SoCalDem
He makes a speech early in his presidency that says this:

The last 8 years of America have been very damaging, and we OWE it to posterity to "study" that time period, so the same mistakes are not made in future administrations..

then he appoints a committee of "well-chosen" experts to study the events, chronologically and in detail.. Their report is turned over to the justice department, aand if they choose to indict, it's up to the justice department..

7. This Is Called "Getting Ahead Of The Curve"
Snotty seems to have gotten some weak knees of late. He didn't become the media darling he thought he'd be and he brought as much heat as light to his own role and the many unanswered questions about what has gone on. You could see he walked to the edge and saw there was no net waiting for him.

Just consider him one of the first to start the "move along" mantra that would surely be the drumbeat of the corporate media should he win the election.

9. screw you Snotty
you all belong in prison and if we are going to change Washington, it begins with holding people accountable for their actions.
