Media consolidation is not our friend
One of the mysteries to me was why the media acted in such a biased way in 2004. On a going forward basis, the question I had dealt with whether the media's dislike was just a function of them not liking Al Gore and John Kerry.

Here is a link to a Daily Kos Diary that shows how interrelated the various forms of media are and how they are interested only in their own interests. I nearly didn't read this because in part in dealt with getting baseball coverage - and I'm not a baseball fan.

It is ultimately a story about corporate control, rather than about media and baseball.

1. And GOP allies are STILL relentlessly buying even MORE media as we sit here today.
Cerberus (BFEE company) bought 7 CBS stations last month - completely under the radar.

Why isn't mainstream media telling us about these deals? Because they don't WANT it to be noticed.

2. I was also concerned that Bush has but arch conservatives in charge of PBS
In 2004, the ONLY fair biography of Senator Kerry was the dual PBS one. Where they paralleled Kerry's life of accomplishment with anything they could use on Bush.

What will 2008 be like with even PBS in Republican hands. They likely went after Kerry especially hard because they had to and because he has fought them more then anyone else. From media consolidation to campaign finance reform to BCCI, they're really all part of the same whole.

3. Think how many of the bigwigs lost money when BCCI was forced to close
because of Kerry's investigations. No way would any of those corporate goons in the media want a President Kerry to have to deal with.

5. Even some terrorist bigwigs!
The odd thing is that as much as the greenies had as an issue fighting corporatism - none of them have been as in your face fighting it as Kerry has.

Between:
- Clean Elections ( corporate finance reform)
- Media Consolidation
- BCCI
- Many Small Business programs where he created earmarks for small businesses to get (then watched like a hawk, to speak up when corporations still try to grab them)

he is strong on this issue.

I saw Thursday's Small Business hearing where Kerry and Snowe, who were 100% together on these issues, hit the Bush administrators for not assisting small businesses on being energy efficient while hearing from several very very innovative small businesses using their creativity to make a real difference on either alternative energy or conservation.

The two panels were a study in contrasts. The first, painful to hear - and from the open mike part, painful for Kerry and Snowe to conduct. The second was as enthusiastic and joyful as a Senate hearing could be.

What is clear is this is a man who finds the bureaucracy that corporation engender when benign useless, while hating corruption, but who loves the spirit and energy of people pragmatically solving problems. What we lost in 2004 is a person, who even after 22 plus years in DC, would have fought for common sense solutions over entrenched powers.
