There is one, and only one, way the war in Iraq will end |
|
We have to elect a Democrat to the Presidency in 2008 or we need 2/3 of both houses of Congress. It is that simple. We can bitch, whine, strategize, pray, protest, spend money, and do anything else, but as long as a GOPer is in the White House, the war will go on.
Under our Constitutional system, the President controls this war. He easily has funds, even if we cut them off, to continue this war due to the military appropriation that was passed last year. Once the military has funds appropriated the President basicly has a slush fund. I would love to end the war tomorrow but it won't happen. With the possible exception of Hagel, no Republican will end this nightmare and every Democrat will. If we win the election in 2008, the war ends in 2009. If we lose, the war ends God alone knows when.
This isn't the sexy position. It isn't the fun position. It is the realistic one.
Party matters. The Presidency matters. It doesn't get simpler than that.

2. We don't have the votes |

2/3 is needed for removal. We don't have 2/3. It is as simple as that.

3. Republicans Ignore the will of the people |
|
That's what we have to hammer home for the next two years. We thought throwing them out of office would make them listen - but they continue to ignore us. Bush won't stop the war, the Republicans won't make him. They ignored us. So we're going to have to throw out some more.
