I think it will be beneficial for Obama to be down in the polls a few weeks |

I think the Obama campaign works best when it has the underdog vibe to it. It energizes his supporters and tends to put Republicans to sleep, thinking that everything will work out well for them like it did in the last 2 elections. And who knows- it might. I don't underestimate the potential stupidity of the American voting public at this point.
But I think Obama's campaign has gotten a bit fat and sassy in the last few months. He's been checking all - or at least a lot - of the "run to the center" boxes, and the whole thing has gotten a bit stale. I can't recall a moment in recent months when he took chances and swung for the fences like he did with his speech on race.
So I actually welcome the prospect of McCain having a lead of 2-3 points for a while, just to wake people up and seriously consider the possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned and $20 billion/month going down the Iraq rathole for years to come. We Obama supporters need to get back some of that primary season energy- I admit that I have lost a good bit of it.
