Glamour Mag Salutes Hillary's Year of Colorful Pantsuits

All eyes will be on former presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton when she speaks tonight at the Democratic National Convention.

Clinton's every word, inflection and facial expression will be dissected. The world will also be looking at what she's wearing. Specifically, what color pantsuit will the New York senator pull out of her closet for this crucial speech?

During Clinton's historic run for president, not only were her positions on big issues analyzed, so too, was her appearance. The media occasionally mocked her proclivity for the pantsuit, and even fashion mavens like Donatella Versace weighed in on Clinton's wardrobe choices.

Glamour magazine salutes Clinton this month with a photo spread featuring her wearing a rainbow of pantsuits from fire-engine red to light lilac. The headline reads: "Hillary, we loved your pantsuits!"

Glamour pokes good-natured fun at Clinton, but the spread is a tribute to the woman who won 18 million votes in the Democratic presidential primary. The real message is, "You go, girl. You made all of us proud."

1. I'm sure some will be "offended" by this.
i.e. the (GOP)"PUMAs" and the (very few) Hillary supporters with extremely sour grapes.

3. I'm offended
and I'm neither a PUMA member, a supporter of Ms. Clinton, nor a woman. The corporate media trivialize women in positions of power with horseshit of this caliber, and I consider it just another form of sexism.

4. Yeah, you really don't hear the male pols' attire get discussed to the
same extent. So either dial that up or back off the talk about the women's wardrobes.

7. As I pointed out in another post Obama got bashed for his
casual attire. And remember how they bashed Gore for switching to earth tones in 2000.

And a little flashback to 2004:

George Bush

Jeff Cahall, owner, Crosley's Menswear and Custom Clothier His choice of shirts under his navy blazer indicates an interest in a personal style, (showing) a nonconventional and more fashionable approach to his shirting. His choice of a navy blazer and gray flannels keep him connected to his Ivy League background as well.

Corwyn Thomas, owner, Corwyn Apparel: This is just ridiculous. Blue check shirt, power red tie, navy blue sport coat and black pants. He brings new meaning to the "Rainbow Coalition." How many of those solid red ties does the president have?

John Kerry

Jeff Cahall: His choice of shirts is more conventional and more off-the-rack (than Bush's).

Corwyn Thomas: I have never been a fan of the presidential candidates in the tone-on-tone or monochromatic attire. Monochromatic colors offer very little contrast and may be considered boring unless there is diversity within the design. I do, however, like the dark suit with the light blue shirt, but French cuffs offer a more polished look. A darker blue tie would offer him just the contrast his outfit needs.

Donna Wesselman: His attire demonstrates his personality, a bit stiff and formal, very "banker" looking, very proper. He appears well -groomed and I'm sure his suits are custom-made. They seem to fit well and it is very appropriate for the occasion.

Oh they sit back and pooh-pooh the guys as well.

11. I'm not saying they never hit at the men. I am saying it seems to happen more to the women.
But I am a woman so perhaps that colors my perspective.

5. Lighten Up - remember how the idiot media bashed Obama
over his weekend family bicycling clothes? I loved Hillary's pantsuits - and believe me there was a day when a professional woman wouldn't dare to wear pants. We have come a long way baby.

Us Weekly Fashion Police Slam Barack Obama's Bike Outfit

Barack Obama may have won the Democratic presidential nomination, but he's not winning any votes for his recent fashion statement!

As Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign in a Washington, D.C. speech, Obama zoomed around Chicago over the weekend on a bike in ill-fitting jeans, a tucked in golf shirt and big tennis shoes.

"Rest assured, the Obama Girl won't be singing about this!" Fashion Police judge Steve Kemble (of Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition) told Usmagazine.com.

Chimes in Dan Brickley, of TLC's A Makeover Story: "Although Hillary's made some major fashion faux pas in the past (anyone remember a certain wedding dress?), we wouldn't see her in a pair of pegged acid washed jeans, peddling a bicycle built for two with Bill...

"Yet, as far as fashion's concerned, Obama's putting function before fashion," Brickley adds. "Unfortunately, we'll all have to wait and see if Barack's helmet can stand up against Cindy McCain's hair helmet this November — Now that's not a headpiece to mess with!"

I accept your admonition to 'lighten up' graciously. Lately, the news has kept me a bit 'testy.'

10. How DARE a fashion magazine do a story about fashion?
I mean REALLY!!

But seriously, what does a female candidate expect?
Our society has ALWAYS focused on what women wear ..or don't wear.

Women have two choices..skirt/dress or slacks..

Wear a dress and people will comment on the dress
wear pants, and they will comment on that as well..

The reason her pant-suits were the subject of so much commentary is this.. They ALL pretty much looked the same..except for the color array..

The other alternative is to say nothing.. and we are not very good at that:)
