WE WON! IN A LANDSLIDE!
Background:
I'm the campaign treasurer for a friend running for city council seat.
If elected, she would be the first black female to ever serve in this small coastal Alabama town.

Well, SHE WON!
The election was yesterday.
She beat the 3 term incumbent by 180 to 43.
I've never seen a harder working bunch of campaign supporters.
They knocked on every door, called every voter.
We are over the moon!

7. I can guarantee that, and more.
Although our mayor and city council races are non-partisan, my lady is a true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.
So are all of her supporters.
And they think Obama's nomination is nothing short of miraculous.

12. More about my friend/candidate:
I met her husband about 6 years ago.
He runs a small contracting business and did a remodeling/room addition/new roof job for us.
During the days and weeks he was here our relationship went beyond employer-employee and we became friends.

Through that friendship we met his wife.
She handles the insurance/workman's comp/etc. for the human resources department of a major realtor here.
Smart as a whip and she is a delightful lady.

Until a few months ago the thought of running for office had never entered her mind. Then relatives and friends began asking her to consider it.
They weren't happy with their do-nothing district council rep.
The buzz began to spread and more and more folks asked her to please run.
The rest, as they say, is history.
We're planning a big victory celebration Saturday.
:-)

17. That proves the voters are done with the rethuglican party.

Congrats to her and to you. The voters made the right choice even if it wasn't a non-partisan position. If she made it known
she was a Dem, that is true progress. She didn't win by just a squeaker either, she won by a LARGE margin over an incumbent.

22. Thanks for all the recs and encouragement.
This was just a little story about a little political race in a little southern town.
Maybe it's a harbinger of what will come to pass in November?
One can hope.
And I guess that's what we're selling.
Hope.
And a chance for change.
Keep the faith, baby.
And never, never, NEVER give up.
