My dear Dems! Are you in love with someone and why, from your heart |
|
Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 01:35 AM by babylonsister
and not an article that tells you how to feel, I want some 'gut' stuff.
I post lots, read lots, but haven't a clue, on how to vote for 'you know who'. Convince me!

1. see, I'm against this type of reasoning |
|
It shouldn't be who you "feel" is right, but how you logically and rationally break a canidate down.
Sorry to be a wet blanket...

4. I'm the opposite of you. I get a sense of the person |
|
from personal history and upbringing, career, why they serve, why they want to be pres, how they react to adversity, how they treat people who likely won't vote for them--all of that figures in way before I examine a voting or policy record. Policies change with the times, and votes in the Senate may not mean what they appear to mean, but a person cannot hide their character for long, and that is what I consider above all else.

5. meh, arguing on character is why we get numbskulls like Bush |
|
People who voted for him often say he "felt" like a "good guy" or a "regular joe" whereas with Gore he was a nerd, stiff/etc. Where the canidates stood on the actual issues was second to some media created perception of the canidate.
Nothing wrong with personally *liking* a canidate over another, but placing emphasis on how they make you feel or not placing higher priority on where they stand on the issues is a bit intellectually lazy to me.

8. See, I looked at Bush using all the criteria I listed above, |
|
and knew he would be an absolute disaster. The media constantly pointed out what a great gov he was, how bipartisan, how he valued education, blah blah blah. None of that mattered to me, because I could plainly see that he was a piss-poor excuse for a man. You can't lump together a smart voter's gut instinct about a candidate with a dumbass voter falling for a media-created image (Brush-Clearin' Beer-Drinkin' Cowboy, in his case).

6. Thank you for your wet blanket! You, of course, are right, but it's so damn |
|
early, I thought I'd float the idea.
Are you the gal/lady/woman/girl going to Utah, finishing her education, getting a job, has a love, and a couple of cool tatoos? Hi. And whatever changed, or not, hi!

9. I'm confused. Do you mean how do you know who to vote for by instinct. |
|
If that is what you are asking then, for me it's gotta be someone who I really want to see and listen to. I have to agree with most issues. I have to like the person themself. who they are. what they are like. See, I like Edwards but, he leaves me feeling bored. blah. nice enough and all but, no great shakes. Or like Hillary who is like nails across a blackboard. I like Obama. Have since he ran for my senator. I like the guy and he inspires me to be a better person. To dream and hope again for our country. I feel like doing good deeds. I want to contribute to him. I feel we could be a great country again and be proud. I want to feel like our grandparents did. Pride in our country and can do. I want to feel I belong to a common cause and community to make things better. I want to dream again. These are what Obama does for me. And I can listen to him explain the most complicated thing and understand. I would like him to teach me math as I think I'd finally get it. It would be easy after that. Not some foreign language.

11. Very well put. Some people just either turn you on or off, |
|
and how someone looks on paper (resume) does not always translate into someone you'd want as pres.

18. On a gut level, I like Obama a lot. |
|
Whereas my bullshit detector was off the scale for Bush in 2000.
For me, it all boils down to leadership and leadership is all about ethics. And ethics is all about listening to your conscience.
Obama can talk the talk, but can he walk the walk?

15. Yeah, I have a crush on someone. I was a happy go lucky guy, and just noticed |
|
that now I'm edgy, worried, sleepless, and feeling fat. It's the worst, and the primaries are still a year away. I know he will probably break my heart between now and then. Maybe I should just go to Canada and marry him and get used to money with a queen on it.

16. ummm... I'm in love with my husband.... |
|
...does that count?
But I wouldn't want him to be President 'cause we'd have to give up our lazy weekend mornings in bed with coffee and paper and snuggling.
I've reconciled myself to a mature realization that the candidate who inspires the most love is not necessarily the candidate who will do the best job as President if elected.
I've also reconciled myself to the undeniable fact that what *I* want in a candidate would probably make her/him unattractive to far too many Americans to have a real chance at being elected.
I've also reconciled myself to the reality that it's probably a good thing that I can never have everything I want in a candidate, because I sure as heck don't know what will serve people who are NOT like me best, and a heckuva lot of Americans are NOT like me.
But I also believe that many if not most of the candidates running have quite a lot going for them in terms of things that I do want, and if I concentrate on that, I'll be able to happily endorse almost any of the current lot.
Anyways, it's WAY too early to make up my mind.
contrarily, Bright

we are silent together, we care, we worry, we hurt when the other hurts, we laugh - a lot, we touch and enjoy vanilla and spice, I wake in the night and can spend hours looking at her face in the half-light, she does the same, I stroke her cheek and she falls asleep with her head on my hand, we snuggle or not, we wake holding the other or each other, we kiss, we play ...

The best that can be said for them is that some are NOT as corrupt, dishonest, grasping, egomaniacal, and ruthless as some others. Of course, the same could be said about members of the Mafia.
