Am I the only person who is not getting any form of glee over Gustav/RNC? |
|
A major storm may hit an unprepared city (again). I'd rather see the repugs have the bestest convention ever than NOLA and the region to go through that again.

20. It's a threat, just not a large one yet. But they have to watch it closely. In a day or two... |
|
... it could become a MAJOR threat, or it could fizzle and/or turn more to the east or west and become no threat to NOLA at all.
But right now, it is a minor threat worth keeping a very close eye on. If the worm turns badly, people will only have a day or two to get out.

What I heard from NBC Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams during last nights convention was that Gustav might pull media time from the RNC. Not that Minnesota was going to be hit.

With that said, I don't wish a hurricane and the damage it can bring on any one, but I pray for seven days of drizzling rain for St. Paul just the way the repubs prayed for rain for Obama's night. Now if my prayers are answered, we will all know who the powers that be listen to. O8)

5. I'm not sure what you are seeing is really glee. |
|
It is a juxtaposition to have the threat of katrina repeat while the republicans (who gave us the katrina response) nominate george mccain to run for them. There is no glee in the hurricane hitting and doing damage, that is a horrible thing. But the threat of it happening reminds people of katrina at a time the republicans want you to forget about it. Seeing that facade taken down causes people to smile, but it isn't about the hurricane hitting.

For the love of god, don't you realize that these things are more complicated than just "evacuate and get out of the way" - once they are over there is so much to contend with, to learn to live with or without.
Fucking give me a break, you can't prepare for this shit, you just get out of the way and hope you can handle what it does.

Excuse me, but isn't that *EXACTLY* what Dobson and his crew were doing... and not just noting an irony, they seriously wanted "bad" weather.
Criticizing anyone for pointing out the simple irony is just sad.

I see no humor in the irony of a possible repeat of their greatest blunder during the convention. I have seen too many blue tarps covering too many roofs to even think for a minute that any political gain is worth the misery that I have had to live through too many times.

And frankly I find all the glee, all the prayers, all the people wishing for this to happen in order to spoil the 'Pug convention rather disgusting. There is something much more important here than the doings of one arm of the two party/same corporate master system of government. There are thousands of people's lives at stake, and wishing for them to come to harm in order to score political points is abhorent and sick.

I think it's sick and childish to get any kind of "glee" whatsoever over a hurricane or tropical storm just because it might interrupt a political shindig you don't like. Imagine if it were the other way around, how angry we'd be. So, what's the difference?

What was I thinking? I mean, here I am in Portland, Oregon, musing on the cosmic juxtaposition of two events that could make it clear to even the dullest minds in the electorate just how criminally, murderously inept the Republicans are at governance. There's not much of what anyone would call "glee" there, but I'll accept the label, I guess.
So, what should I be doing to counteract a colossal force of nature from 2,500 miles away?
