Oh please God let it be true.....

If security sweeps are the giveaway, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may be on the brink of being selected as Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) vice presidential running mate.

According to sources with strong Michigan ties, the Secret Service has conducted a security sweep of the home of Romney’s sister. Romney was raised in Michigan, where his father served as governor.

24. No. As another DUer said, they'd be more "secret" if they used decoys...
and sent them to the houses of the people on the short list who weren't chosen for VP.

there was NO WAY the romnoid would be able to keep it close enough to steal from the top spot on the ticket.

but- i think that the plan calls for jebby bush to be romney's number two.

22. I've been saying this for some time
The plan is so obvious and disgusting, no one wants to talk about it. Hell, even McCain wants to shove the unpleasant possibility of being quietly offed in office into the background as he does to the minutest detail all the Bush-Rove machine demands, including picking Romney. Their plans don't go away for being obvious or known or unspeakable or anything. You have to throw some of them into jail.

Terra-ists in the attic? Mortars in the den? A whole buncha chemicals in the garage?

That's not change the fundamentalist right wants, especially since McCain is quite elderly and not in the best of health.

I hear she gets real angry when someone tries to steal her stash.

I also hope it's Mittens just cause I know these two can't stand each other...and how Mittens is a clone between Dan Quayle and Thurston Howell III.

27. This insures that the Republicans will get the Utah vote.
Great pick -- a fellow super wealthy guy who has shipped jobs overseas like they weren't needed here anymore, whose religion makes the right wing religious turn up their noses, and who is so slick you could skate all over him. How hilarious.

Romney is supposed to be McCain's better economic half. A guy who has no idea what it is to be an ordinary American who has to pay huge credit card bills on an income that never goes up. The only thing Romney has going for him is the fact that he was in charge of the change in Massachusetts to the mandatory health care system that very much resembles Obama's own plan. That is the only thing. Then, of course, the minute he goes for that issue, he will also have to deal with the gay marriage in Massachusetts issue.

And then, there is the sudden fit of conscience regarding abortion when Romney suddenly found himself faced with the decision whether to ruin his chances for the Republican nomination or stand by the promises he had made to the liberal voters of Massachusetts years before. Here is what Romney is reported as saying:

Q: Why such a dramatic and profound change after pledging never to waiver on a woman's right to choose?

A: I was always personally opposed to abortion, as I think almost everyone in this nation is. And the question for me was, what is the role of government? And it was quite theoretical and philosophical to consider what the role of government should be in this regard, and I felt that the Supreme Court had spoken and that government shouldn't be involved and let people make their own decision. That all made a lot of sense to me. Then I became governor and the theoretical became reality. A bill came to my desk which related to the preservation of life. I recognized that I simply could not be part of an effort that would cause the destruction of human lift. And I didn't hide from that change of heart. I recognize it's a change. Every piece of legislation which came to my desk in the coming years as the governor, I came down on the side of preserving the sanctity of life.

. . .

But here is what he said in 1994:

Romney disclosed that he became committed to legalized abortion after a relative died during an illegal abortion. The disclosure came after Romney, who said he is personally opposed to abortion, was asked to reconcile his beliefs with his political support for abortion rights. "It is since that time that my family will not force our beliefs on that matter," He said the abortion made him see "that regardless of one's beliefs about choice, you would hope it would be safe and legal."
