14. I had to give up Keith (temporarily) because I couldn't stomach listening to Scarborough, Brokaw
Harold Ford, Pat Buchanan, etc. It was really making me insane.

C-Span has done wonders for my peace of mind! Watched everything, uninterrupted and without wanting to throw
bricks at the tv.

I think my blood pressure has gone down at least 20 points!

He's barely intelligible anymore. He had a chance to be a great newsman but saw the writing on the wall. Be a Ho or be like Dan Rather.

21. Everytime I hear Brokaw, he says something subtly negative.
How artfully he is in getting in his digs. But after hearing him 5 or more times or so, it's so obvious.

I gotta say I've given up on MSNBC's coverage. These guys don't seem quite ready for primetime. I'm watching PBS and CNN.

27. Back in 2004 on election night, he brought up the blue and red divide on the map,
and muttered something about the assigned colors being backwards (implying that the Democrats are "red").

22. The columns had a practical design purpose --
The stadium was so huge. The tall columns that spanned across the stage helped provide visual balance between the stage and the surrounding very large arena. Without them, Obama would have looked very vulnerable. The columns were almost necessary in my view. I don't know what Brokaw and others think would have made a better setting. That's quite puzzling.

The columns also symbolized the Parthenon -- the birthplace of democracy

And, finally they invoked King's great speech and the democratic movement that it inspired.

Obama is the fulfillment of King's dream. His mother was a part of the generation to whom King spoke, the generation that was inspired by the memory of Eleanor Roosevelt, the threat of Fascism, the teachings of Ghandi and Jesus -- and then by King himself.

The columns were appropriate. They symbolize the idealism of Obama's mother's generation which is alive in the youth of today.

I can speak about Obama's mother's generation because she would be six months older than I am if she were alive today.

Apparently the columns might not be as symbolic as everyone is thinking.

25. Brokaw sure can be trite.
Especially during such an historic event and speech.

Crap, does he think anyone in that audience cared about the columns?

I think the columns were there to make the stage look more presidential and like Washington DC.

Brokaw, I wish he could focus on the more salient points. Pity.
