I have a close relative who retired from GM. Recently they cut his pension

and notified him that when he reaches age 65 (very soon) they will cut off his medical insurance.

He's right-wing as they come (go figure! Where would he be if not for UAW?) and I'm pretty left-wing. But I saw him last weekend and one thing we can agree on: The US is going to hell in a handbasket.

2. He is salaried isn't he?
I don't think they have tried that with the hourly workers yet.

6. The salaried workers at the Ford plants I worked at were all right wing nuts
Nothing surprising there.

3. A friend of mine just called me in tears.
Her husband, who retired from Ford and passed away last week, just found out that Ford, as of August 1, has lowered the "promised" life insurance of retired Ford workers from $50,000 to $25,000. She lost out on the higher insurance payout by 20 days.

5. You may agree on where the US is going..
But I'd be willing to wager some fairly serious dead presidents that you completely disagree on the reasons.

8. No question about it. He'd probably say, because of social programs,

minorities, mhhhmm--what else?

I'd say, because of GREED. Because of cuts to social programs that benefit the middle and lower class, uutsourcing "good" jobs to other countries, ridiculous pay/benefits to CEO's and other bigshots, and growing income equality. All of these are manifestations of greed.
