Anyone here from Alaska that can answer a question?
Was the plan Palin talked about where she took profits from big oil and gave money to every resident of Alaska anything like what Obama proposed with Windfall Profits?

It looks like McCain will do anything to win, he's reversed himself on saying that experience trumps change and if her plan giving $ to the residents of Alaska, well his drill, drill, drill is shown as a con too...rather Obama was right again...

1. If I Remember Right
Some of the profits for the oil pumped through the Alaskan Pipeline are distributed to the State's citizens.

Alaskans get a dividend from Profits off money they have in a savings account. Granted that savings account was intially funded from oil revenue it now pretty much earns it's own money through investments and interest. Alaskans receive one quarter of those Profits but nothing at all directly from oil. The state uses oil royalties to run the state as there is no state income tax nor state sales tax..

3. No
It has nothing to do with windfall profits at all. Alaska has made a lot of money of late because of high oil prices and it receives royalties on that oil. On the other hand Alaskans have had to pay out disproportionately in fuel costs because of the remoteness of most Alaskans and the cost of getting that fuel to them. It is a Major hardship on rural Alaska and Palin decided it would be a good thing to take some of those extra earnings the state has brought in and disperse them to the people that actually own the oil. It is very similar to Obama's one thousand dollar per family tax cut....
