is John McCain having his Harriet Meirs moment early...? |

Harriet Meirs, Bush's one-time Supreme Court nominee:
1) was gratuitously female, i.e. her gender was a likely political factor in her selection, and perhaps an over-weighted factor;
2) was zealously committed to his policies and to the direction his administration was going;
3) would have been easily dominated once in office;
4) was massively under-qualified, a circumstance that probably bears heavily on #1;
5) caused a collective "Huh?" when she was nominated;
6) did not last long as the nominee.
Sounds hauntingly familiar. McCain's choice of Gov. Palin seems awfully similar. We'll have to see about #6.
