I flew with soooo many ex-Navy carrier-types who could not, if their life (and mine and 150 others!) depended on it, make a basic crosswind landing! In a fucking B-737 (the easiest landing airplane in the history of the world!). Never a crosswind on the carrier deck.

what about gusts from other directions? seems like that sort of thing would happen all the time, w/sudden gusts/change of direction/shear, etc.
what about the pitch/roll of the deck?
I've read that many of the hottest AF pilots couldn't come close to landing on a carrier
is that all BS, cause that's all one ever hears, is how hard it is to drop a brick onto a pitching, diving, swaying surface in a small percentage of the distance one would have on land
love to hear details on this from someone who's actually done it....and do you have the link for that thread where you're talking about flying the Neptune, was it? I meant to bookmark it, and want to read it
