The University of Georgia and Seiler family of Savannah have revealed the identity of the new Uga, a 1-year-old English bulldog who will perform his first official duties as mascot on Saturday.
"Loran's Best" officially will become Uga VII in a coronation ceremony held before Saturday's football season opener against Georgia Southern at Sanford Stadium.
In the midfield ceremony, UGA President Michael Adams will slip a new red leather spike collar over Loran's Best's head as fans settle in for a 12:34 p.m. kickoff.
At 56 pounds, Uga VII will be second in size only to his 65-pound father, Uga VI, who died of heart failure in June just shy of his 10th birthday.
...I'm not going to be able to make this game, the first home opener miss in years for me.
