You're not taking this from me, McGOP (OR: Why I hate Republicans) |
|
I hate republicans because I now realize they've forced me to be cynical about the chances of the most appealing, exciting and inspiring, candidate I've seen in my nearly fifty years on this planet.
Fuck you, GOP.
You're not taking this from me.

1. But who is really to blame? |
|
Personally, I think the question one must really ask is "Why is the GOP in a position to force you to be cynical?"
Are they gaining support from new citizens (both those that come of voting age and those that immigrate here)? Unlikely. Youth and immigrants are almost always more Democratic than Republican.
So they must be getting the support from somewhere else, from Moderates who bounce back and forth between parties. The question then becomes "Why is this happening and what can we do?"

Oh, but first of all...welcome to DU. :hi:
You raise a very good point. I feel the GOP has forced me to be cynical through their repeated use of lies and pure propaganda as means to achieve their political aims. I'm no longer able to listen to anything they say without that "Oh, those fuckers must be lying to me AGAIN!" feeling coming over me.
Is it my fault? Sure. I should have learned early on never to trust anyone, and that everyone is on his own, and that you need to fuck people over before they fuck you over.
But then I would have become a Republican.

Well, that's one way to look at it.
I like to look at it like this:
Both parties use propaganda. That's a fact, in fact the Democratic party is very good at using it to motivate and mobilize large groups of people. Both parties lie. Whichever one lies the most we'll never know, the bullshit runs so deep the "light at the end of tunnel" is long dead.
I would start to question (I'm a socilogy student, I like to think about stuff like this):
1. What, if anything, has changed in America to push McCain ahead of Obama in the polls?
2. Did this change occur because of something McCain did, something Obama did, or something the population did?
3. If something McCain did made this happen, what did he do? Why? How? Why did it work? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, what options does this leave Obama? Does he need to counter this particular tactic or use it himself?
4. And lastly, has a change really occured? Everyone knows that 79.2% of statistics are made up ! Remember, reality is what you perceive it to be. Unless you're personall following McCain and Obama around and are able to ask every single person they come in to contact with how they plan to vote, you're relying on the MSM for poll figures. I could conduct a poll that could nearly any outcome, it's all in how it's administered.
