I'm gleeful about McCain's pick of Palin |
|
It negates his attacks on Obama for purportedly not being experienced enough.
She has NO experience on the national stage. She simply hasn't been in office long enough to know how to deal with the national press.
She's a Pat Buchanan clone; her political philosophy is a fringe one- outside of even the republican mainstream.
it's an insult to women, and women will take umbrage over this obvious political ploy.
I can't imagine a more disastrous choice.

1. I am absolutely bouncey at the thought of someone asking Gov. Palin |
|
what she thinks of McCain's assessment of his own wife, ie the "c word" and "trollop."

We all build up how bad AG and JK was going to kick his butt in the debates. We raised the bar to high, all chimp had to do was hold his own and not wet his trousers on tv.

18. And Biden will have to remember not to appear "condescending" or |
|
invading her personal space.
On the merits he should win the debate handily, but as with the chimp, there is the concern about appearances which might trump the substance of the debate.

The game plan for the Repukes is to downplay her quackery, paint her as a 'reformer', outside Washington a 'tough, can be Commander' women, and most importantly a women. They are pandering to the female vote in the most shameful way.
Trouble is, wouldn't a Kay Bailey Hutchinson have done the same thing? Why this particular women? That's what I'd like to know.

4. Hutchinson would have been a much more formidable |
|
choice. The Palin pick will actually turn off a lot more women than will be attracted to her. It's fucking insulting.

14. I recently looked up whether there are other female Republican governors... |
|
I found two: Jodi Rell of Connecticut, and Linda Lingle of Hawaii (any others?). While I may not have all the details, neither of them seems as *insane* as Palin - why wasn't one of them considered?
Well, I hope it won't matter, as I hope McCain/Palin lose by a mile!

5. Yes, but that viewpoint assumes |

that enough Americans will be discerning enough to tell the difference. After 2004, I have no faith left. I truly, sincerely hope that you are right, and I am wrong.

6. I don't know how long you've lived |
|
but you sound very naive as to the nature of Americans.
This could easily be the VP elect come November 5- and rather than scoffing and gloating on our suppossed good fortune, you might want to consider what might happen if events prove you wrong.
And get to work making sure that they don't-

7. Long enough to know that she's a huge risk. Throwing someone |
|
on a presidential ticket who has had NO experience on the national stage is fraught with peril for that ticket. Furtermore, I've been at work for Obama, dearie. And I'll be working for him next door in NH this fall. Now don't you think YOU should get to work instead of running around lecturing others?
Oh, and yeah, damn straight I'll sneer at her.

10. Sneer away- but remember Dan Quale |
|
that was received just like this- and while the guy was an embarrassment, I doubt he was as dangerous as this woman is.
Ridicule- fine- even good, but pressing our luck- or encouraging others to do s at this stage is just dumb. Dearie.

15. Dan Quale was a U.S. Senator |
|
for 8 years and prior to that was a two term U.S. representative. He's also a lawyer. Palin? 8 years as mayor of a small, small town and 1.5 years as governor. See the difference?

9. Sure she *could be* VP-elect . . . |
|
And that would be a disaster for the nation and the world. But so would the obvious corollary: John McCain as president-elect.
The key thing here is that this is such an incredibly bad choice, the likelihood of McCain winning has dropped significantly. Faced with his first truly "presidential" decision, Obama came up with an absolutely stellar choice; faced with *his* first presidential choice, McCain came up with a big "huh?"
Aside from the practicalities of Palin as an untested, inadequately vetted campaigner, McCain has shined a searchlight on a most important fact: he's not ready to lead the nation. He makes rash, intemperate decisions that put the nation at risk; in true republican style he's willing to do anything to get elected (governing after the fact be damned).
Should we be complacent? Of course not. Has John McCain just handed us a huge gift? Yes, yes, and yes!
