1. frightening isn't it....
My mom told me about an pro-lifer she and her friend encountered. When her friend asked the lifer about cases of rape and incest, the lifer responded that "those were different" at which point, they enlightened the poor fool that he was, in fact, pro-choice.

3. Sadly, it's not unbelievable. In the early 90s, a senator from KY wondered why incest is a problem
considering that's how you get good race horses.

7. Who Was That?

Bunning? Or some nimrod in the state legislature? I know Cabbage Patch Kid didn't say anything that stupid, even if he might very well believe it.

25. ok - I looked this up. I was off quite a bit It was Louisiana
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 10:22 AM by Iris
and it was when LA legislature passed a law prohibiting all abortion, even in cases of rape and incest. I believe the law only died b/c the governor vetoed it. To be fair, the fellow who said it lost an election, but still the idea that someone would say this at all - that's what I thought pertained to this discussion. We're not so far away from that.

here's something from The Feminist Chronicles:

"As a result of NOW's Women Elect 2000 project in Louisiana, coordinated by NOW 's Kim Gandy, the number of women in the legislature tripled from three to nine, defeating anti-abortion incumbents. An abortion rights supporter was elected Lt. Governor, a woman was re-elected State Treasurer and another was elected to the Senate, the only woman serving there. Among the sweetest victories was: the defeat of Senator Alan Bates, the Senate sponsor of Louisiana's harsh abortion law; the landslide defeat of an Eagle Forum standard bearer; and the trouncing of Rep. Carl Gunter who helped to defeat himself by his comment on incest- "That's how we get thoroughbred race horses." NOW activist Harriet Trudell served as Campaign Manager. (11/05/91)"

8. She reminds me of what my brother has become
A Non-Denominational "Make it up as you go" Fundamentalist.
They don't think anyone needs to exist that doesn't fall in line behind their hate.
Why the Repukes think they could put in office a person that wants Creationism taught in a public school as fact like math and science, is beyond me.
Next everyone will have to take Jesus 101!!

12. This Should Be An Insult To All Women...
Don, This is a cynical and desperate selection. This woman is the antithesis of everything Hillary Clinton has spent her life working for...and I can't imagine she'll stand by as not only Palin, but her puppetmasters attempt to coopt her message and try to exploit it. Palin doesn't want to crack the glass ceiling, she wants to replace it with plexiglass.

The other game being played here is to play not just the sex card, but the race one. It gives cover to those who just can't vote for a black and allow them to say they're voting for a woman as an excuse.

The line of J.C. Watt's father keeps playing in my head...voting for Palin should be for women what voting for Col. Sanders is for chickens.

This move shows how little respect GOOPers, and wingnuts in specific, have for women...giving Gramps a skirt to hide behind.

Cheers...

14. she is at the least, not being a hypocrite. she thinks it is murder. how do you excuse murder
if a woman is raped, incest, or will die and you believe abortion is murder how can they then say it is ok to murder under certain circumstances. she is at least being consistent

it is all those repugs that say it is murder and we can murder under certain circumstances that i call out. when they justify some murder and condemn others then it is a moral judgment on a females promiscuity that they are punishing, not from a stance of murder. i argue with them all they way. they either dont decide who gets to murder and who does not OR they do not allow anyone to murder. one or other, take position

the reason this is important

then i can say to that mom and dad, what if you daughter is raped. then are you going to MAKE her carry the baby.

it is easy for them to argue when there are outs

not so easy to argue when they are in a box

make them always stay in the box

16. Think you are wrong
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 09:18 AM by NNN0LHI
If she or one of her daughters were to be raped by a family member or some escaped convict and came up pregnant she would not hesitate to abort that child and we all know that. Don't we?

So who is kidding who here?

17. well.... we cannot argue what isnt there. we have only her words to argue.
i dont know

i was talking to father and he says only rape and incest but womans health has to suck it up. i told him, sons 2 and 4.... i am three weeks, embryo and told if i carry i die. do i carry and leave little ones with mother and make ed raise these boys

yes father said

but ok with rape and incest.... why do they get a pass

then not 6 months later my niece gets preg at 15 and first thing he says is abortion, it is still legal after all, why ruin her future.

you hypocrite i told him

so i think yes you are right. but have to argue her words not what we think she would do

18. I actually think if common sense were applied we would all conclude she is lying
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 09:36 AM by NNN0LHI
Everyone knows she wouldn't put her daughter through something like that. Any parent who loved their child would do everything possible to help their daughter try and heal physically as well as mentally and to attempt to go on with her life after something as traumatic as that.

If she really would force her own daughter to carry a baby full term full term under these circumstances that would make Palin a monster.

She needs to be asked about this.

19. but the reality is in the name of the lord many parents would abuse their children
and what i read she is part of dominion. yes i believe they would easily do it to their kids.

we would think no parent would hurt their child and kick them out of family for being gay. but we see over and over and over because of their belief adn in the name of the lord they will turn their backs on their very own children

you and i wouldnt do it.

not even close kinda or anything in between

but i can and have seen some do it

22. That is because these freaks think being gay is a choice their kids have made
Rape by its very definition is not.

Really can't compare the two I don't think.

24. from a different angle..... they have the capacity to turn away from a child
they feel that strongly about abortion. at the expense of a child. turning away from the child. their think is different. i live amongst these people. i can easily see them do the most hurtful things in the name of the lord

i can see them laming the girl for being raped

you and i wont agree, and that is ok.... we see it differently
