Sarah Palin will be the “plausible excuse” for another stolen election

Why would McCain choose such an unquestionably unqualified running mate? The simple reason, because she fires up the fundamentalists. She is solidly against abortion and any form or recognition for gay couples, is a staunch advocate for home schooling, would be a strong advocate for teaching creationism over evolution in public schools, and would back Federally funded faith based initiatives free of any anti-discrimination in hiring requirements.

To the fundamentalists, you can torture, you can wage illegal wars against Muslim heathens, you can do pretty much anything you want as long as you vow to work to strip a woman of choice, and NEVER EVER give up even an inch of compassion to those damn gays.

There is no question that the selection of Sarah Palin with her extremist views will radically energize the fundamentalist base, and it is their likely huge turnout in November that will serve as the “plausible excuse” for the next stolen election. Remember that virtually nothing has been done nationally to correct the problems with Americas electronic voting systems. The media will immediately inject this fundamentalist turnout as the “reason” for a McCain win, they will laud McCain for his decision to select an unknown as "genius", and any question of the election results or the vote count by the Democrats will immediately be met with a barrage of “sore loser” comments and discussions from the media talking heads.

I have little doubt that Sarah Palin was chosen by Rove himself for this exact purpose.

3. Well, there is this..
if people cared about their vote now, rather than later. There are a number of states who have legislated...all by themselves...paper ballots and standard audits following each election. There are far more states that have the ability to do recounts. There is a voter registration drive underway that is urging all voters, whether newly registered or not, to check their registrations shortly before the election. At this late date, there are still things that can be done.

Holt Introduces Emergency Election Audit Bill for 2008 Elections
Legislation Would Reimburse States for Conducting Audits

Representative Rush Holt
Contact: Zach Goldberg - 202-225-5801
August 1st, 2008

Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep Rush Holt (NJ-12) today introduced legislation to encourage states to conduct hand-counted audits for the 2008 elections. The bill is a version of emergency legislation that Holt offered earlier this year, but that House Republicans blocked from passage.

“Electronic voting notoriously can lead to disputes and uncertainties. While many states have set in place requirements for a paper ballot or record for every vote cast, we need to do more. We also need to give states the resources to conduct audits to insure that vote totals and paper ballots match,” Holt said.

The bill would authorize funding for states that conduct audits that meet basic minimum requirements, including the use of a random selection, the requirement that audits be conducted with independence, at least a 2 percent audit sample, and public observation. All ballots must be included in the audit and they must begin within 48 hours and be completed prior to certification of the result. Only about a dozen states currently conduct audits.

According to a 2007 report by the Brennan Center for Justice, “he widespread adoption of voter-verifiable paper records does not . . . resolve the security, reliability, and verifiability issues with electronic voting . . . .Paper records will not prevent programming errors, software bugs or the introduction of malicious software into voting systems. If paper is to have any real security value, it must be used to check, or ‘audit,’ the voting system’s electronic records.”

The New York Times, citing that report, recently editorialized that “States…need strong audit laws to ensure that machine totals are vigilantly checked against the paper records. That is the only way that voters will be able to trust electronic voting.”

5. Now why would House Democrats block a measure
that helps to ensure the integrity of our elections. They must have gotten a heads-up on what will transpire this November.

without some serious pressure from the people who are getting their votes fucked with. And the first stop is the state house, not the federal government. The states that have legislated measures that ensure proper tabulations of their citizens votes did so without the federal government.

This link provides information about the various voting systems used in every county in every state. It also has links to each of the Secretary's of State.

4. My thoughts exactly.
When I heard the news about this pick, I immediately thought the same thing. It won't matter who gets more people to vote for them, it will be who gets declared the winner by the companies. Palin despite her inexperience will fire up the base. People I know who previously said, "I'd never vote for a woman - Can you imagine someone having their finger on the button and having PMS every 28 days?" are now lauding the genius of McCain's VP choice. Without verifiable elections we will always be at the mercy of the companies.

6. Yep..
I can see the writing on the wall. With Palin the base is energized and it's all they need.

I feel sick, but hey, what can we do? It is what it is.

7. Unfortunately I also concur that there is little that can be done about it
at this late date.

8. sigh..
I expected it. I'm just sad to see the site as a whole is so hopeful and confident in Obama. It's going to be a very depressing place here after reality sets in and we're staring at President McCain
