McCain: I may postpone convention
John McCain said the Republican National Convention may be postponed as federal officials said Hurricane Gustav was gathering to a devastating Category 5 as it headed toward star-crossed New Orleans.

“It just wouldn't be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near-tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a natural disaster,” McCain told Chris Wallace of “Fox News Sunday,” in an interview taped for tomorrow. “So we're monitoring it from day to day and I'm saying a few prayers, too.”

McCain also said: “I'm afraid, Chris, that we may have to look at that situation and we'll try to monitor it. I've been talking to Govs. Jindal, Barbour, Riley. Chris, I've been talking to all of them.”

Officials at the convention, which is to open Monday in St. Paul, Minn., tell Politico they are figuring out how to handle the formal business of nominating McCain even if some delegations are not able to attend.

15. He's full of s**t.
Something like that just cannot be simply canceled without incurring tens of millions of dollars in penalties.

It would take Executive Action (such as happened after The Day That Changed Us All).

2. So they will postpone it for two weeks. I only hope it costs them millions
I wonder if those who paid for flights or made hotel registrations will get a refund

8. Oye vay
What exactly can a Senator, who is not from any of those states, do right now? I can see the logic of visiting the disaster area after the hurricane has passed, but, well, I just don't know.

I suppose Obama probably should not be seen campaigning alongside a tableau of McCain visiting the hurricane zone.

It looks like Florida is going to be OK, meaning that this storm will not blast any swing states.

11. This is just too rich. To think that the religious wackos had formed prayer
circles to pray that Obama's Mile High event got rained out. Ooooh the sweet irony.

12. No. Don't postpone it. Just cancel it.
But that would be the smart thing to do, and McCain ain't smart.

14. That is an absolute crock
That facility is booked for probably the next two years.

Then there are those pesky matters like supplier contracts, carpenter and stagehand unions, all manner of fun stuff.

21. The Show Goes On...Commander Huff'nPuff Goes To The "Rescue"
There's too much money spend and riding on cancelling the Convention...not just for the RNC but the corporate media as well...as well as the many hotels and businesses that are relying on those free spending GOOPers (not to mention the hookers).

McCain will fly down to New Orleans and play pResident...just like how he tried to take the lead in Georgia...with the corporate media in tow...trying to play hero and with Wolfie and Brokaw and Streptacocus and Gibson and Fournier all cheering what a great leader he is. Bank it.
