When I look back to hurricane Katrina, I remember the birthday cake Bush & McCain ate as well as how woefully unprepared New Orleans was, combined with the president's refusal to supply the help necessary.
Now hurricane Gustav is approaching. New Orleans is totally unprepared for Gustav. The key today and early tomorrow is to get everyone out of New Orleans. The roads cannot handle the traffic. Bush is canceling a trip to the twin cities. McCain is getting briefing.
LWelsch's diary :: ::
To start with a simple question: Why do John McCain and Sarah Palin need a briefing? What power do they have to improve events. Their briefing is nothing but a complete and utter waste of time for PR. The press should point this out.
Next, why are Chertoff and Bush involved? Have they not given enough power to the head of FEMA to manage the crisis? Apparently not!! In theory the head of FEMA should be talking to the president who in turn should be authorizing whatever he wants. The head of FEMA should know how to handle a hurricane event of Katrina's size or larger. Apparently neither he or Chertoff or the President do.
What should be happening now is that every person in the New Orleans area should be evacuating and given whatever help is necessary. To me this means that there is sufficient transportation to get everyone out by tonight. The hospitals and nursing homes should have been evacuated yesterday. This did not happen.
So the nation and George Bush are unprepared. John McCain does not know what to do. And Hannah is on the way.
