A little funny feed back from canvasing CA 50 for Nick Leibham
And I am talking to a guy in Escondido in his 50's.

Just trying to get the guy engaged and have in my hand the handout piece which is showing the back which has a rather unflattering picture of the bad guy - Brian Bilbray.

The guy interrupts me and says - "hey I know that guy did he ever live in Imperial Beach"

So I start to explain that he was a congressman in that district but that he carpetbagged it up here and so on and the guy says

"No no I recognize him - is that Brian Bilbray? He used to sell me all my weed - he had really good shit".

At another place (an elderly Republican woman) I left the piece in the door when no one answered and then ran back when she opened the door belatedly. She picked up the flier and again reading the backside read "Brian Bilbray voted with President Bush 90% of the time" and said oh I am sorry I will never vote for your guy if he votes with that crook. I explained the misunderstanding and she gave me a hug and said "finally we will put these crooks away!"

(and this stranger than fiction twist - the 21 year old volunteer staff coordinator from MD that was running the day ended up being the best friend to my best friend's son. My best friend now lives 3000 miles away and haven't seen him since we worked together in the refugee camps of south east asia 30 years ago - a one in a billion shot)

3. Very cool! Sounds like you had a great day.
Does Leibham have a good shot there? I hope so.

4. great chance Al Gore is going to come and help us

Al Gore is coming to help with fund raisers on Sept 20th

Everyone is so fucking energized that we are going to knock on every door as many times as it takes.

The republicans have poured over $ 10 million into this district over the last 2 years and what a miracle if we can make it go all down the fucking drain.

Anybody in the area who is interested in attending a $ 1000 a person fund raiser (set by Gore not Leibham) on Sept 20th in San Deigo PM me.

6. Awesome. Hey, we beat JD Hayworth in my CD so you can definitely do it!
Speaking of JD, he's rumored to enjoy a bit of the wacky weed himself at parties.

5. 2 in a billion
first off, thanks for your dedication to an important election. dump bilbray.

2 in a billion coincidence?

i was teaching public speaking at a wonderful los angeles college with students from everywhere. in an assignment, an air force veteran recounted his hootch just off the base in vietnam. another student, a vietnamese, asked him about the location of his off-base quarters. the more they talked the more the vietnamese student became convinced. the airman had lived in the vietnamese student's home, after the family had been kicked out for security reasons. the two of them became asshole buddies; classroom compatriots with that much in common.

regards,
mvs
