...couldn't the cops just say:

Protest over there.?

2. These protesters are choosing to be arrested to add gravitas to their statement.

Civil disobedience is a powerful action.

The authorities are already saying "Protest over there." in the freedom cages (ie "free speech zones") that are so remote as to render the protests invisible.

If there is not free speech in all of the country, there is no free speech in any of the country.

3. Everyone knows the little old ladies are the most dangerous of all.
Kudos to the Grandmas for being there and exposing the over-the-top fascist preaction to the non-event that might have been the RNC, had Gustav not saved them from themselves.
