I'm getting annoyed that people actually think they can influence internet board discussions |
|
Who the f*@k is anyone to decide that their value system is in any way the standard upon which people should choose to engage.
Oh, and my favorite, most hilarious sentiment is "it makes us look bad". Yeah, because if "we" behave for long enough maybe we won't be so "underground" any more. Maybe we can become guest panelists on Crossballs or something.

6. When there's discussion going on that someone else does not like |
|
they butt in and start scolding people for "saying things that might embarrass us"
When they are "new" we call them "concern-trolls"..when they are old-timers, we just laugh , call them scolds, and go on our way :)
Welcome to DU, btw :hi:

sometimes people on DU recognize that posts are sexist/racist/homophobic or otherwise offensive in some way. Being the sort of people we are, we believe we have a moral obligation to speak out against that.
So, you have one view that says people have the right to say anything, no matter how bigoted or offensive it may be (true), and that free speech means all speech is above criticism (false). That conflicts with the view of "the scolds" which is that silence condones.

I have actually "broken up" with 2 people i considered friends in the past month. Why? their bigotry started coming out. Why? the obama stuff is heating up and i'm getting more excited by him by the day. If i just stood by and didn't respond to their bigotry, it's like i'm endorsing it.

Because, see, all the really cool kids are bad.
So, I want to be bad, too.

29. The silliest argument is "well, it would take so many people to pull this off." |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 12:09 AM by TexasObserver
I find it laughable that people think they can hear about something for three days and conclude "oh, there's nothing to see here!"
The silliest argument they make is "well, it would take so many people to pull off this conspiracy!" That is an argument made by the ignorant, those who have never once had anything to do with proving a massive conspiracy existed. I have done so, numerous times, in cases where some of the biggest corporations in the world systematically tried to hide their heinous conspiracies. It often takes years to prove such conspiracies, and those who have done it know that the silliest person in the world is the one who yelps about "conspiracy theories!"
Here's how you find the truth: You gather every piece of information you can gather. You accept that some info may be good, and some may be bad. You test new information against knowns, and where possible, you draw appropriate conclusions. You do not assume any particular source is reliable, and you do assume those who engage in the conspiracy are actively providing misinformation and disinformation.
LOGIC is the primary guide. Who has something to hide? Why do they need to hide it? Who is in a position to alter records? Who has the ability to generate false evidence, and why would they?
Ultimately, you create a puzzle with thousands of pieces, and by arranging those pieces, you see the picture it reveals. You never get there if you bail out early because "well, they said they didn't do it." You never get there if you naively believe that conspiracy theories are hogwash. The sad reality is that 99.99% of all conspiracies are never unveiled. Most are very successful.
