New ministry aids women with same-sex attractionCharlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 8/31/2008 4:05:00 AM
Exodus International has launched a new women's ministry led by Yvette Schneider.
"There's consistently been a gender gap of about 60 percent men and 40 percent women seeking help in overcoming same-sex attraction," says Schneider.
Making counseling for same-sex attraction more available and more effective are the goals of the new ministry, but Schneider says they also want to reach girls and young women who need the same kind of attention, perhaps heading it off at the pass. "One of my goals is to produce and write materials that young women can use to understand what has created that conflict, and also materials that will help the church to better minister to the needs," she explains.
Schneider believes the church is improving in its attempt to help, but she feels pastors need a much deeper understanding to communicate effectively about the problem. She hopes to design training for pastors, and to communicate the message via speaking engagements.
