You have to stand up, even alone if you must, and do what is right.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing about how we don't have the votes to impeach or to end the war. This is why we keep losing, folks. We need to have a forceful conviction and a forceful voice regardless of the "votes." I bet ya no Republican would stand in our way if Democrats only had the spine to call for an immediate withdrawal. It's what the American people want.

3. If people ACTUALLY behaved that way in the REAL world...

... there'd be no need for a structure of government as complicated as ours.

EDIT: That is, you might as well say "all you need is love (love, love is all you need).", or "buy low, sell high". They're TRUE, but simply not helpful, being completely lacking in how-to-get-from-here-to-there advice.

5. If the rwarlovers see weakness, they just push for more concessions, for example
see this thread about getting rid of a provision in the spending bill regarding IraN, the next war.

7. Absolutely dog gam right. Make the pukes have to vote against withdrawl or obstruct
Why are the dems so afraid to make a stand on what 75% of the american public wants?

It's time to start thinking about the 08 congressional primaries. If our elected dems won't do what the voters overwhelmingly mandated, then they need to be replaced.

8. AND by doing what is right, maybe THE REAL STORY will be told
and the public can finally connect the dots. The Dems have been bullied for so long not to do the right thing, now that it's not as risky (i.e., the public is now more supportive) they are still cowed and some have FORGOTTEN HOW to stand up.

The OP makes a great point here!

Some things transcend "business as usual".

This is one of them.

take a stand because they didn't have the majority. Now they're saying it's because they don't have the votes. I really get sick of hearing all the lame excuses. It's way past time elected officials stand for principles instead of game playing and being afraid of "how it will look".

11. Point of fact: it's the same "excuse" in both cases, not different excuses...
... (and I use quotes not to indicate *disagreement*, but rather to indicate *abstention*.)

12. AMEN! . . . Congress (including Dems) continues to play the "business as usual" game . . .
when the times and the crises are anything but "usual" . . .

the Congressional mantra "don't make waves" needs to be replaced by "rock the fuckin' boat!" . . .
