Keep Anti-IraN War restrictions in spending bill. Action needed.
See M.J. Rosenberg blog for source of info

As everyone knows, House and Senate Democrats are trying to put together an Iraq war spending bill that will pressure the President to bring the troops home sooner rather than later. There is a general consensus on most issues relating to Iraq. However, the authoritative Congressional Quarterly daily report reveals today that some Democrats are fighting Speaker Pelosi's language which would prevent the President from going to war in Iran without the approval of Congress. Simply put, Pelosi wants to avoid a repeat of the Iraq experience in Iran. For Dems, this is a no-brainer, or so one would think.

But, according to CQ some of the same Democrats most vehement about ending the Iraq debacle are resisting denying the President unilateral authority to go to war in Iran. The hypocrisy is astounding. It is worth noting that the AIPAC conference begins in Washington this weekend with thousands of citizen lobbyists being deployed to Capitol Hill to deliver the message that Iran must be dealt with, one way or another.

This battle over the Pelosi language is part of the overall Iran effort.

And you thought it couldn't happen again!

Go to above link for the report.

Tonight AIPAC, a key lobby pushing to keep the restriction in place, opens its big annual show. What the Oscar's is to Hollywood, the aipac's annual policy conference is to Washington DC. Damn likely your congressperson will be there. No other event, save the State of the Union address, gets greater attendance by House and Senate members.

tonight one of the keynote speeches is to be given by a Rev. Hagee (Dubbed "Pastor Strangelove" by some). Now Hagee makes Pat Robertson look almost like a liberal. He staunchly opposes any land being given to the Palestinian people in any future peace deal. Most importantly he believes that the US and Israel should attack Iran, that there is no alternative.

We must oppose this extremism. We must demand that only Congress make decisions on war, as provided for in the Constitution. We can't let congress abdicate its responsibility on this once again, especially now that it is led by Democrats.

Call your House and Senate reps Monday. Tell them you demand that there be restrictions made to prevent Bush from launching pre-emptive war against the people of Iran, that will have catastrophic consequences for everyone in the region.

Say no to wars of aggression. Say no to armageddon. Say no to militaristic extremism of aipac and the Christian Right.

2. Given the disaster that Iraq turned out to be, I would think putting some restrictions on the
President preventing him from starting another war would be an easy thing to find support for.

Have we not learned anything from Iraq?
