More And More Polls Show Obama's Lead Expanding

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/two_more_polls_show_obamas_lea.php

By Eric Kleefeld - September 2, 2008, 9:46AM

It's starting to look like John McCain's historic selection of Sarah Palin hasn't done him any favors in the polls.

Here's this morning's Rasmussen tracking poll: Obama 51%, McCain 45%, outside of the ±2% margin of error.
Obama was up 49%-46% yesterday, suggesting that Palin's scandals may have helped him to double his lead
in just one day of sampling.

And the new Hotline/Diageo poll has Obama up 48%-39%, compared to a 44%-40% lead from just one week ago.

Late Update: Three more polls all show Obama leading by a substantial margin.
The daily Gallup tracking poll has Obama up 50%-42% -- the first time ever that
he's reached the 50% threshold in their poll. The USA Today/Gallup poll has Obama
up 50%-43%, and ARG has Obama up 49%-43%.

There is also yesterday's CBS poll, which gave Obama a 48%-40% lead.

3. Evidently more people tuned into Obama's acceptance speech than
even for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics. I read that somewhere on DU but don't have a link handy.

I think he picked up quite a few voters that night.

13. And the finale of American Idol. Obama can flat fill a stadium, and he
gets ratings. I just heard that he's going on Bill O'Reilly on Thursday, and that saddens me, because I don't want someone of his stature to legitimize FNC, or be used by them for ratings.

8. "historical" selection? more like "hysterical"
ferraro was first major party veep candidate.

palin will merely be the first republican veep candidate. an historical footnote, unless they steal ANOTHER one.

12. I'm Waiting For Updated State Polls...
National polls mean squat...it's the state ones that matter...especially the "battlegrounds"...and the last ones Pollster has are from before the conventions...and, even with those, the trendlines showed Gramps fading in Ohio, Virginia and Colorado...all Red stations in '04. Add to this other polls showing Obama with expanding leads in Iowa, New Mexico and Alaska (of all places...but before the Palin baby bump). The fact Camp Gramps has to buy TV time in North Carolina and Georgia says things aren't trending well their either.

I still haven't seen a poll that shows Gramps with any lead or momentum in any of the Kerry '04 states...this election is all being played on "red" turf. Plus there are lots of people who still aren't being polled...younger people, Hispanics and blacks.

Let's see how this week plays out...the GOOP has to make their case NOW...let's see if they do something more than attempt to slime.

the primaries are over. Last poll in Ohio, for example, was on 08/24/2008.

McCain is competing in Wisconsin, but polls consistently show Obama leading there.

16. Babbington???
That the AP hack that Keith called out for filing a story about Obama's speech even before he was finished giving it out.

If he's saying Gramps is "competing" that means he's down by 10%.

Here's the latest from fivethirtyeight.com...they were spot on during the primaries...

It's still early and there's a lot of work to do, but I'm feeling cautiously optimistic.

22. It's Nice To Be Playing Offense
The GOOP are very offensive, they haven't had to defend in a long time and polls are showing people have had ENOUGH

To be honest, I hope people believe the close polls...so we don't get complacent and work even harder to take this country back.

Keep up the great posts!

Just to make the GOOPers hurt extra bad...but 300 is a very, very nice number. But I'm greedy...I'd like 330!!

These are the same guys who predict baseball races...last year they nailed the White Sox record to the number.

21. NOW do you see why I am NOT BACKING OFF...
...on this she devil of a bitch? IF we can keep up the pain, and pound, pound, pound, and pound at EVERY aspect of this bitch's life, we can increase the lead for Obama.

This is a WAR, and ALL subjects are ON THE TABLE. The republicans have milked Gustav like I predicted, and we should take advantage of EVERY chance we get to increase the lead...NO MATTER HOW.

KEEP UP THE PAIN, FOLKS!!
