What is a Publican?
Originally, in Rome, Publicans were government contractors, who took built roads, oversaw ports, and constructed public buildings for a profit. They also became associated with tax collection, and by the time of Christ, were mostly seen as tax collectors.
In England in the 12th Century, a sect called the publicani believed that ALL procreation was evil. They were (sensibly) persecuted as heretics by the Archbishop of the time.
By the time of the Renaissance, a publican was a licensed landlord of a public house, and by extension a slang term for a pimp.
REpublicans keep trying to remove the "ic" off of "Democratic Party". This is childish and petty, true, but that's what they shine at, and they are persistent in their disrespect.
As long as they want to omit two letters, let's take two of theirs!
Publicans -- contractors, tax collectors, anti-procreationists, and pimps. Sounds about right.
From now on, they're the Publican Party!

I didn't want to leave them with "Republic". It's really the antithesis of what they stand for!
I figger we shouldn't use it every time, just often enough to raise eyebrows. Maybe occasionally say "Republican-- excuse me, PUBlican party". Don't offer explanations.
"Sauce for the goose, Mr. Saavik. The odds will be even."
Or is that too Trekkie for this forum?
