However, my daughters are also everything to me, so turning her away would be tough too.

2. I would be in complete denial. |
|
Which is probably what's happening in that case.

I was thinking I must have missed the thread where one of Palin's kids killed their three year old sister (the picture in your sig line threw me). That being said, if we are talking about the Anthony's I don't think they believe she did anything to her daughter, denial is a good coping strategy when the truth is too awful...

I could take her out if she killed her 3 year old.
Huh?
OH... Take her IN. No, of course not! I thought you asked if I could "take her out" if she were a murderer.

5. if it's true that they "forced" her to keep the baby when she wanted to give it up... |
|
as has been mentioned in the media, their feelings of guilt may be overwhelming. I can't even imagine what I'd do.

11. What if the problem is the child died from neglect, like being left alone? |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 09:30 AM by TexasObserver
There's killing one's kid, and there's being stupid and letting the kid get killed some way that may or may not have been easily foreseeable. Mom gets high, falls asleep. Kid drowns in bathtub.
That is criminal negligent homicide, but not a willful attack on the child.
If that happened, the mother of the child is guilty of negligent homicide and hiding the body.
It's a tragedy, and the mother likely has some culpability, but learning the truth may require getting her out and working on her. I do not favor the holding of people for BAIL, especially when it is so high. It says quite clearly: If you have money, you can get out pending a trial. You get to live a fairly normal life and defend yourself. If you don't have the money, then screw you. Stay in jail. Have the jailer decide all your major decisions, limit your outside contacts, and listen in on all your conversations.
We treat the accused in this country like SHIT. It's a simle concept, this innocent until proven guilty.

12. yes, i would. It is hard to explain. Maybe it is denial. |
|
I would love my children no matter what they did, although I would be heartbroken to the point of despair.
I would also cooperate with the police with any information.

14. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt. |

Unfortunately that is very true, even when it comes to terrible crimes.
A very dear friend confided in me that her stepfather had been sexually abusing her. She had been visiting me for a week when she told me, and I refused to let her leave until I was sure that she would at least tell a friend of her mother's. She was afraid that her mother would blame her, since when one of *her* friends told their mother about a similar situation, the mother disowned her.
Her mother did not blame her -- she was supportive and insistent that the police be involved. They went to the police, but they needed more evidence to make sure the charges stuck. So my friend went over to visit the man who had abused her, who had threatened to shoot her and then himself if she ever told, and shot her dog to prove it to her... wearing a wire.
He admitted it all, even ages.
However, his mother absolutely refused to believe it was true, despite the fact her son confessed.
She put up her house to pay his bail -- he had charges in three different counties, and his bail was very high. She hired a lawyer, but when that lawyer looked at the evidence and advised a plea deal, she fired him and retained another. She ended up losing her house when he skipped bail, went to another state, and killed himself.
Parental love can be ridiculously blind.

15. Yes- I could, in this case |

A mother's love is unconditional.
I would take her in.
Make sure she had a competent lawyer.
Make sure she got mental health care.
Also if the girl did kill her child, intentionally or not, the best way to find out where the child's body is and what happened, is to have her at home. I would want my grandchild laid to rest properly.
