Does anybody know ONE PERSON who's impressed with Palin |
|
That didn't already have a RW bent and was gonna vote for McCain anyhow?
I DON'T!
It's like they were gonna "hold their nose" and vote for him but now they're all excited because Mrs. Mooseburger's supposedly a fundie.
Every single person I know -- even those who don't pay much attention to politics, think she's a joke! The mopey McCain voters are less mopey...that's all they're getting from Caribou Barbie.
I have one aunt that was going to not vote this time -- and is now voting OBAMA.
Please, we aren't the only ones seeing through this big fake. I couldn't believe on Rachel today they were showing her out on the trial today DOING THE SAME DAMN SPEECH OVER AGAIN. How old is THAT gonna get, how fast?
Hand wringers, get real. There is no WAY this GOP ticket is coming anywhere close enough for them to steal. Her shelf date is very, very short and if they think they can just rehash that canned speech & do softball interviews on Faux and have people actually vote for her?? NO WAY. Only the super hard core GWB Moonie Freepers types will do that.

1. Well, I do know ONE person ... |
|
... who's impressed with Sarah Palin. Coincidently, that person's name is also "Sarah Palin", and she, too, lives in Alaska.
Do you think they might be one and the same per -- oh, no, that couldn't be.

Several right wingers said they were impressed by her RNC speech. I found quite a few RW's in online forums who said the same thing. All were greatly impressed by that speech, good looks, and charisma.
But then I asked each of them, what specifically in this speech gives you the impression that she represents change for the better? What solutions to the problems caused by Bush can be found in her words? And while most agree that the Bush regime has caused today's problems, what different political direction will she take and where can that be found in her speech?
Not one person answered me. Nobody could actually find anything of merit in her speech. Not one meaningful solution to the Bush created problems could be found. Thus, all were impressed by her good looks and charm. But nothing of substance could be detected in her speech or campaign.
I would like to see DU members challenge RW's to offer proofs that Palin's speech contained any substantive matter.

That's all she's supposed to do: allow them to reassure themselves that what they believe is okay and everything is good and right with the world.
(EDITED TO ADD)
Basically confirm their bias.

She's got style and good looks. But as for substance, she demonstrates next to nothing. In fact, while she decries pork barrel spending in the campaign, Alaska ranks # 1 in such spending.

When I ask them if they would have been equally impressed if Obama would have selected with a person with a similar resume.
I've gotta learn to wear protective clothing when I ask Republicans these types of questions. Their heads always explode.

Where Palin helps McCain is the far right that just could not get behind McCain, and would have stayed home - she also helps with the group in the middle who can't bring themselves to vote for Obama but are also so mad at the Republican party they would just stay home.
If Palin can survive politically between now and November (and this is very open to debate) , she has a good potential to get those 2 groups to show up at the polls where they would have stayed home. What it means is that the Democrats have to be flawless on turnout.

Numbskull Republican at work who likes Obama "I really do" and thinks I'm terrible because I won't give the Republicans "a chance." He said to me, when he asked if I'm watching the convention, "why won't you try to see their perspective?" I said, "Why? I've seen it. It's not pretty."
He swears he wants to be convinced to vote for Obama. So I printed out AP's factchecking article on Palin's speech and took it work just for him. I knew he'd bring up Palin, and asked me what I thought. I said, "which parts, the lies, or the half-truths?" He said "prove it she's lying." I whipped out the article, gave it to him. He read it. When he brought it back, I said, "well?" He basically said, "so?" So I said, as I knew I'd have to, "so what's the point in you saying you have an open mind when an article like that has no effect whatsoever on you?" He didn't know what to say. So I finished with, "I don't like talking politics at work, I get emotional and loud. Not a good thing."
That's how they are. He's a nice enough guy, but he's got the political depth of a pee puddle.
Conversely, one of our company owners was asked if he watched her speech. He said, "No. I didn't want to throw up."

the ladies at work first liked her, but it sank in on them. One of them said, She's a B&^%h!!
A interesting story i will share with DU underground? I worked the polls in 2006. I remember a old hag came into the precinct. While my Doctor and his buddies were shooting the S$3t with me about how the Republicans fu#$ed everything up. She walked up to us and shouted out "I LOVE BUSH!" very loud Everyone in the voting area as stopped what they were doing, and gave her the get the hell out of here look. Also, voters waiting outside as well as pedestrians stormed into the voting area. One Puerto Rican woman said, "Oh no she didn't!". That old woman walked up to the ballot table. The ladies threw the ballot sheet at her. Later, the woman said. I'll come back later. When she left, everybody went back to what they were doing.
It was total silence. It was like in the movies the record scratches. If anyone on DU underground witness this, it was the funnies moments ever.

have switched back to McCain. I think in spite of Obama being black they were going to vote for Obama just because of the economy being so bad. Now I hear them say how they are impressed with Palin and how "she tells it like it is", I think she gives them them the excuse to vote for McCain without being perceived to be racists. I can't imagine the Republican'ts coming up with a more effective choice for VP it was an absolute stroke of genius in my opinion.

Palin has unleashed many of the tongues which were being held by people long trained not to say anything unless they could say something nice.
They couldn't say "I'm not voting for no ga- -mned ni---r." But they CAN say "I just LOOVE Guvner 'Pale'-in."
So, if it seems as though "everyone" is talking now, it's just that prior to her arrival, they didn't have anything nice to say, and hence were keeping quiet.
No, I don't think these new loose lips were ever planning to vote for Obama. But they can say that they are voting for McCain now, because he's given them such a deliciously "innocent" reason - Sarah Palin!
They like her; they can "relate" to her.
