-- Jewish problems for Republicans -- Palin's Pastor
Edited on Sat Sep-06-08 12:14 PM by LVZ
Although Barack Obama's campaign has had problems with some in the older Jewish community, Sarah Palin's apparent nods to the extreme right (support for teaching creationism, anti-choice/evangelical views, etc.) may have been a welcome gift for Democrats.

I think that potentially a bigger problem for Sarah Palin among some Jewish voters, however, may be her pastor Larry Kroon inviting Jews-for-Jesus David Brickner to give a sermon at her Wasilla Bible Church August 17, 2008. Fairly or not, some of his past statements could be viewed as antagonistic toward Jews. It should be noted that Palin states that she does not share Brickner's views. (Somehow, that sounds familiar, doesn't it?)

BTW, Brickner is NOT Jewish.

It is likely this would only have election relevance in Florida.

Rabbi Irving Greenberg

"But I have to recognize that there are people of ill will; there are Christian missionaries who still believe that Christianity is the only valid religion. There are Jews for Jesus who use the trappings of Judaism to bring people into a religion that teaches that Judaism is finished. Jews for Jesus are worse theologically than the mainstream of Catholicism or Protestantism, which now affirm that Judaism is a valid religion. Jews for Jesus say that it is not. They use the Jewish trappings, but de facto, they are teaching the classic Christian supersessionism--that Judaism was at best a foreshadowing of Christianity".

1. This may send shock-waves thru the GOP.
Her views and those expressed elsewhere within her scope may cause some Republican Jews to sit this one out or vote Democratic. However, it is probably of little concern to the GOP as Jews do not make up a very large voting population for them as it is. The GOP may just write them off for this election.

4. Though there is a large Jewish population in Florida,
I still don't know to what effect, if any, it will have on the GOP. Jews simply are not a huge number of voters. Had this been said about Latinos, then there could be a real problem. Though their stance on immigration alone should alienate many Hispanics and Latinos, one might think.
