United States presidential line of succession |
|
If the worst case senario occurs, where a President McCain dies and VP Palin becomes the new president .... we then have Vice President Nancy Pelosi?

rest running the country. She does what they tell her and nothing more. How does such an experienced person have the inability to speak for herself?

We are not going to get Vice President Pelosi. For their to be a line of succession, both President and VP would have to die. Then it goes into succession.

And that is if Pelosi is re-elected as Speaker. Let's assume that will be the case.
The 25th Ammendment would require the naming of a new Vice President:
Section 2 of the 25th Amendment provides that "Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress."
Now...considering Democrats would have majority control, Joe Biden could end up Vice President...or another Democrat.

12. Nixon picked Ford after Agnew resigned even though the Dems |
|
controlled Congress.
It wouldn't surprise me if the next Dem Congress would do the same if Palin picked a well-respected, fairly reasonable member of the Republican party.
What goes around comes around, and I suspect that the Dems would like to firm up the precedent of picking a VP of the same party if the shoe were on the other foot.

I was half-joking about the Biden selection, but it would definitely have to be a moderate Repugnican...but would ideology push Grandma Barracuda to pick another zealot and mess up the process? Nixon was a pragmatist when he named Ford...he knew he needed a quick, painless process and Ford was a good enough foot soldier to be bought and stay bought. Palin appears to be under the control of the Neo-Cons and Fundies...her idea of a "moderate" would be a Colburn or Goober Graham.
Even worse, she'd pick Traitor Joementum. :fear:
Of course this should be a question asked of her...but she'd rather talk about Mooseburgers instead.
Let's hope and work hard to ensure this scenario is just a game of conjecture, not of any sort of reality.
Cheers...

6. More likely someone like Cheney. Maybe Cheney. Why not? |
|
She is ultimately intended to be the next George W. Bush. McCain's expiration date makes serving as another compliant, symbolic president her real function.

The Speaker of the House is next in line, that is true, but she will remain Speaker of the House.
President Palin (that phrase should be enough to vote for Obama-Biden) would appoint a Vice President with the advice and consent of both houses of Congress under the 25th Amendment.

we did not elect will be running the country just like the raygun years and then the last 8 years. The two real elected officials set back and take it easy while the GWHB and Chainy guys run the show.

13. No - see Amendment XXV of US Constitution |
