NATIONAL CHECK YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION DAY |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 07:07 PM by norepubsin08
I am going to post this every day until October 1, 2008. I would like for us and every other progressive organization with an email list, phone list, mailing list or walking list to make and declare Wednesday October 1, 2008 as NATIONAL CHECK YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION DAY. If we can get groups like MoveOn.org, Progressive Democrats of America, ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Project, GOTV's every where, all State and County Democratic Party organizations around the country and every body else we can think of to declare this as check your registration day, I think we can spot some problems that can be corrected before we even get to the ballot box. One of the things that is happening is voter purging of people who have family members who are felons, people whose homes have been foreclosed and all sorts of other excuses to take them off of the rolls. If we do this, we go to the press and media and make a big deal out it. I think it would do three things 1) practical find out where the problems are and take steps to rectify it. 2) show that the Republican Party is attempting to steal this election again 3) put the Republican Party and MSM on notice that we are going to be much more proactive and vigilant this time around. We do what we need to do, identify who has voted with us in the past, and who is likely to in the future. We help in what ever way we can...rides to register, help with securing ID etc etc. That night we have "house parties" (potlucks) around the country showing films about Republican cheating along with literature firing up our base to work for the Democratic ticket. I propose to do this on Wed. Oct. 1st because if we do it then (most state have a 30 day registration requirement) if we spot the problems on Wednesday, we have through Friday to correct it. I am not very computer savvy, so I'll need help with this. Who is willing?

this is why I am saying we need one day where we do a massive "check if I can vote day" highlight the bullshit the Republican Party is doing. Not only do we save some of our voters from losing their votes, but if it is a big enough event, it gets press coverage-Mike C

2. I do not show up yet I registered 2 weeks ago... |
|
I realized mine was not done yet.
I was sworn in as a citizen on August 21 along with about 1700 new applicants for citizenship, in Phoenix.
We all stood in line to hand our social security papers and I'd say about 2 thirds also filled in registration cards.
How long does it take for someone to get his card in the mail and to show up in the database?

This is some of the stuff I am talking about. You p0robably need to call the county auditor and tell them to get on the stick. Do you have proof of registration?

9. Yes I do... I have the carbon copy |
|
Plus the fellow who helped me fill the form was AA, probably a Democrat, and he seemed delighted to be here, as most naturalized citizens vote Democratic.

10. Make sure you go to the county auditor... |

with the carbon and make sure that you make them track your registration and you get the clearance to vote. This is why I am proposing this...we need to be proactive. BTW interesting observation about the naturalized citizens voting Democratic. I too came from another county (Germany) took my test and became a citizen...I have NEVER thought of voting anything else other than Democratic and for the most liberal Democrat when a choose is available!

19. Wow so you renounced your citizenship? |
|
I come from France and I have a personal beef with the Republicans. You know... Freedom something.
France allows multiple citizenship, so do the USA and I am proud to be a citizen of both.
But I know that Germany does not, which means you renounced your German citizenship. Wow...
I know 2 German and 1 Belgian immigrants who did not do this especially because of this.
We had a keynote speaker during the ceremony who is a police office in the Phoenix PD. He actually had a hard time reading his speech when he came to the part where he renounced his German citizenship. He now works in Mayor Gordon's detail (obviously he too is a dem).
Yup, most naturalized citizens are Democrats for the reason that, where we come from, the likes of Bush and McCain are usually categorized among the most extremist parties.
As a conservative in France (I voted for Sarkozy), I see no incompatibilities in being a Democrat in the US. Most social positions are the same (actually all are).

5. I recommend sending emails to the 'purged' |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 07:26 PM by djohnson
In 2006 I went to vote to find out my name was purged. Something to do with moving my residence a distance of about 1 block.
So I think it would help if someone could figure out a way to send emails (or call) people who have been purged from registration lists.
I have the technical skills to do it, but not the clout or experience, so I hope someone knows who to contact to make sure this can get accomplished....

8. I AM CALLING ON ALL OF YOU |
|
to call the Democratic Party in your county and state and ask them to sign on board with this...then email the progressive organizations also. Remember when MoveOn.org did the Sheehan vigils on Aug 17, 2005 we had massive turn outs for those...we need a day and a night like that again. Plus it will be fun to have a potluck with the base, leabn about voter suppression and get fired up!

13. How do I "Check if I can vote"? |
|
I recommended calling or sending email to purged voters.
If that's not a good idea (I thought it was but hey)...
Could we email actual links on how to check, besides just calling (who to call would be an issue in that case anyway)? A lot of people, including me, just aren't really phone oriented, if we could have links with where to click I think that would help, and make it less of a wild goose chase.

follow it's links to check on your registration status, or better yet go into your auditors office and check it...by all means make sure you have a voter card and ID. If you have problems contact your Democratic Party for help!

18. I know but I'm surprised nobody's gone to the trouble... |
|
...of creating a website where you can just enter your zipcode and then get contact info.
Obviously I'm a zealous Democrat and will jump through hoops to register if necessary. Others, I'm not so sure.
I'm surprised if nobody has developed a registration website for the masses, so to speak.

14. The Progressive Caucus here in CA got this from one of its members. BEWARE!!! |
|
I got this message from a friend who used to live here in Fresno . Is this RNC voter registration scam going on in other counties? --- Jay
Here is a heads up. Today my wife (a registered Dem) received a Mailer from the RNC with McCain's name on it. Inside was a brief letter identifying her as possibly being unregistered and a bogus registration card to be returned to the RNC. The letter also solicited funds. We checked with other Hanford Democrats and found that they had all received the letter and that local Republicans had NOT. Now I may be a little paranoid from reading too much Greg Palest and Thomas Frank but this smells like a set up for creating new caging lists of registered Democrats in our area. I plan to report the letter (I kept 2 copies) to the local Obama campaign and the national as well on Monday but I thought I would see if anyone else got this suspicious mailing.
Jim Bartram (In Exile in Hanford CA ) __._,_.___
We better be ready. Those bastards are trying to steal CALIFORNIA.

also, some places allow you to vote early. If you can, this is a good idea to make sure there aren't any problems.
on election day, if anyone gets turned away for voting, call the OBAMA campaign ASAP.
