Palin Vs Obama
Somebody posted this on Craig's List tonight- I thought it was great and since CL posts only stay up for a week (or less if enough Republicans flag it) I thought I would share. I'd love to give him/her credit, but CL postings are anonymous, so I can't. I'm sure it's all been said before, but how nice to have it all in one place. Great ammo for the next time you have to argue with a Repuke over "qualifications".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

***This is a lengthy, but factually based rant. You can look up any of the references I've made to verify this. You have a computer, do your own research and stop listening to the bullshit spewed by campaigns and the media.***

Sarah Palin is completely unqualified to be the VP. This is as plain as day. I simply cannot believe how, yet again, the Republican political machine has been able to piss on the heads of the American public and then convince them that its raining. The fact that she's even being compared to anyone else in this race (on both sides) is just laughable.

I think her most obvious lack of experience relates to foreign policy -- arguably the most important issue in this campaign. Go to her website and read her bio. There's nothing in it that even hints at a foreign policy background whatsoever. She also has extremely limited experience abroad and has never operated abroad in a professional capacity.

As for economics (specifically macro economics), she's the Governor of a state that has roughly the population of Columbus, OH and an annual budget of $2.9 billion, which is less than GM's annual advertising budget(that's not an exaggeration either -- Columbus, OH has a larger pop. and GM spends $1.5 billion on online advertising ALONE). Regardless of the numbers, Alaska is also one of the most non-diverse and unsophisticated (in an economic sense)economies in the US.

Oh and if education means anything to you, she has a Bachelor's in Communications from the University to Idaho. That's a mediocre education at best -- we're talking about someone who could potentially be the leader of the free world.

Her experience is often compared to that of Obama.

First off, the guy is a Senator. By the very nature of such a position, he would HAVE to have gained foreign policy and economic experience because the Senate deals with issues of foreign policy and economic/market related bills/matters on a daily basis. But let's break it down...

In terms of foreign relations: He holds assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Veterans' Affairs (not to mention other not related to foreign policy). He's also the chairman of the Subcommittee on European Affairs. If that's not enough, as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he's made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (working not only in a professional capacity, but on official US government business).

In terms of Macro Economics: Aside from the numerous bills that have, as a Senator, passed through his hands that relate directly to the economy and government expenditures, he holds assignments on the Senate Committee for Health, Education, Labor and Pension and has written an economic plan for America (for the presidential race) that has been endorsed by dozens of top economists including four Nobel laureates (type in "list of economists for obama" into google).

As for education, he holds a BA from Columbia University and a JD from Harvard Law, where he was the president elect of the Harvard Law Review and taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. Sound a bit more applicable?

If you've made it this far, the whole reason for my post isn't to bash on Sarah Palin because I think Obama is so great, but rather to point out that the comparison of her background with Obama is frankly absurd. She's not qualified to be the VP. End of story. And the fact that she's McCain's running mate is going to weigh heavily on my choice in November and it should on yours as well.

2. Is it a suggestion that McLoser will be out of picture soon and she takes over?

7. It is a natural comparison for some people
It's the narrative\historical candidacy stupid. They will be compared because of their common deviation from the standard.

They both arguably are "less experienced" or than their running mates.

It is a natural comparison in those dimensions. It is also possible to have a winning talking points prepared. I would suggest that it might be worthwhile to steer the comparison in that direction and not allow red herrings to distract.

It always helps to tell people they have a valid point before you tear down their argument.

5. The point is-
Republicans always make the comparison (adding "but Obama's running for PRESIDENT!") whenever anyone knocks Palin's experience.

As to who is PRES- I get the real feeling that more republicans are going to be voting for her in November than McCain. Plus, am I alone in believing McCain is likely to drop dead before he finishes his first term? There's a very good chance she'll end up as President if they win this election.

Sorry you didn't like it.

3. Don't get suckered into comparing Palin with Obama.
She is merely McCain's running mate. Any comparisons should be made to Joe Biden.

8. Palin is a fraud
Palin is a paragon of American motherhood and yet she never breast fed her babies. That is an obvious conclusion being that she went back to work the day after her baby was born. Anyone could drop a baby and hand it off to caretakers. The real test is to take care of the baby single handedly and wake up to feed it in the middle of the night. Any thing less is an insult to the mothers who know what it is like to be attached to an infant by breast feeding. Those who do not breast feed cannot know what it is like. Palin is a fraud in comparison to mothers who are attached to their babies in a real sense. Anyone can hand over a baby to grandparents, it's siblings, or others. She has no idea what real motherhood is like. :-(
