I was on hold for two hours waiting for AT&T and then my cordless
phone battery died. Ironically, I had finally decided to get rid of my land line and just use my cell phone only. Now I realize I may need it for just such occasions. I'd hate to spend 120 cell phone minutes calling an 800 number.

But honestly, isn't it embarrassing to be a phone company that can't provide customer service without making your customers wait on the phone for 2 hours? If my cordless hadn't died I wonder how long it would have taken me to get through?

I guess I have to buy a phone with a cord in order to cancel my land line.

5. What doesn't make sense?
Do you know what a cordless phone is? Its a landline phone that you can use inside the house but you aren't attached by a cord. Its not a cell phone.

Two hours. That's ridiculous!

7. They make it easy to add service, difficult to cancel.
It could have been longer, if the phone hadn't died!

The repair system is temporarily unavailable.

But I'll try it later, thanks.

I tried again and this time I got through to someone on that number in a minute. He said it all depends on the time of day.

16. ATT sucks
And they're a union shop who gets their nose out of joint if someone like say, a Democratic campaign uses a different vendor, but the truth is they charge huge deposits and take much longer to get the work done. The price is high and they subcontract the work in most places anyway.

11. I did.
I even took calls on my cell phone and said I would call them back. Heck, I even saw calls come in on the caller ID on my cordless where I was on hold and I didn't want to lose my spot. In the end my phone pooped out on me.

26. I swear I think some of their worst behavior is POLICY.
I have been on hold for at least two hours, only to be disconnected. I have demanded supervisors, gone through days of runaround. I have been disrespected, told I had a personal problem when what I had was a bookkeeping problem.

All because I refused to pay charges that were in error. Dealing with ATT is hell, sheer and utter hell.

6. We went in to Comcast this weekend to upgrade our service...
We brought home a Digital Voice self-install kit and upgraded our cable service to get all the channels. We spent 2 hours on the phone and talked to 8 different people just to activate our internet/phone service. We spent another hour on the phone trying to activate our cable service, but finally had to take our DVR/Cabel box back and get a new one. Thank God I have an unlimited plan for my cell phone or It could have been expensive.

12. You'd be wise to rid yourself of (NS)AT&T completely.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 02:02 PM by AndyA
I used to have AT&T long distance and cell phone, but noticed whenever I had a problem it always took a lot longer to get through to customer service. And that's not "customer service" to me.

So, I finally got fed up one day and dumped AT&T. Then, almost a year later, I got a bill from them with some charge for not using their long distance service! I tried to call them, but never got through. So, I wrote a letter saying I was NOT a customer, did not want to be a customer ever again, and told them to remove me from all marketing, mailing, and phone lists.

About a month later, another bill with LATE CHARGES tacked on! This time, I filed a complaint with the FCC. I asked them exactly what a customer was expected to do to get rid of AT&T FOREVER?

Shortly after that, a letter arrived from AT&T advising me that the charges had been removed.

AT&T is a scam. They spy on America. Don't help them do it. DUMP AT&T!

18. I tried to move my LD to WorkingAssets and ATT sabotaged that.
So, I just dumped their LD altogether and only use my cell for those calls. They also tried to scam me out of months of charges.

28. No choice here and it pisses me off.....
I switched briefly to Working Assets but it ended up costing me MUCH more -- I need unlimited long distance and they didn't have it. So I had to switch back to AT&T and HATED it. But I live in a rural area and AT&T has a lock on the market to this point. Nothing I've done in terms of lobbying has had any effect -- very frustrating.

14. I don't know what # you called or what dept, but I bought a cell phone
two weeks ago, and had my ladnline ported to the new cell phone with no problems at all! I was never on hold more than 1 minute! The first people I spoke to were the ones in the woreless department to make sure I COULD port my landline #. They gave me the number to call to have that done.

Charge your cordless again and check for a different # to call. If you are on hold more than 1-2 minutes, hange up and call a different #!

17. Excellent AT&T rant.
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 02:16 PM by Jamastiene
I couldn't agree more. I despise their (lack of) customer service too.

I'm still furious at all the cell phone minutes they made me waste when the local yocal water company cut my phone line not once, not twice, but on three separate occasions. I had to wait and wait and wait.

The worst part, other than running out of cell phone minutes, was the attitude they copped when I mentioned that we ordinary citizens would be charged and given a tongue lashing at the very least if we cut a phone line even one time, without calling "before you dig." Yet, the freaking local yocals, in charge of our local horrible green smelly hog manure infested city water, can cut the land line 3 times with not even a "Hey, cut that out!" from the phone company to them.

I was furious to say the least. First clear chance I get to bolt, I'm switching to cable for my phone service and AT&T can go cop an attitude with someone else who is frustrated while dealing with brain damaged local yocals and sorry, flimsy AT&T customer service.

21. I think this is a general trend: Customer Service has gone to hell.
Its tempting to take it out on the person you finally get through to. But of course the decision has been made somewhere else to cut the number of people delivering service, especially if they are taking complaints or taking order cancellations.

If you're at the front end where you're ordering something new and making contact with a business for the first time you're going to get good service. Once they have your business its going to get a little worse and they'll start lying to you, and from there on its all crap.

You can go to three different stores with the same question and get three different answers, then get yet another answer when you try to call them.

yep. 10 bucks a month and a one time 50 bucks for the router. It's internet IP phone.

that 10 bucks gets you unlimited local and long distance calls.

works like a charm.

25. Same thing happened to me
I canceled my land land last month, took about 30 minutes. Then, they billed me incorrectly, so called again. Spent 20 minutes on the phone with someone who told me to just pay the DSL fees. They billed me incorrectly again. Called again. After talking to three different people and being on my cell for over 45 minutes I hung up and e-mailed them. Took them 4 days to respond and I received two different replies. I responded to the e-mails and am waiting on their next response, presumably at the end of the week - when the bill is due (DSL charges).

30. Can relate. Only reason I have land line is for calls to HP and Vista support. Seriuosly.
Three months ago, Vista crashed. I was on the land line from 8am till noon. Then 2pm till 6pm. Then 7pm till midnight.

Nightmare companies to phone support for by being on hold in order of craziness, HP, Microsoft, Adobe.

To AT & T free? Is this AT & T wireless? You should be able to just dial it from your cell and have it not count against your minutes.
