Do you have any simply reflexive "liberal" issues? |
|
By this I mean are there any issues or causes that are stereotypically liberal and traditional that you support but more so out of just a reflexive reaction rather than a full and complete understanding and informed embrace of that issue?
We all know that the conservatives have a bunch of these, things that they care about because it's part of some big platform and that in the end they are more attracted to because these positions piss of liberals more than it is that they actually care about them.
And please, no lecturing anyone on why they should or should not care more about whatever issue or cause they put forth here, or inundating people with information on why this stuff SHOULD be more important to them.
Mine personally is the more specific environmental stuff like ANWR and offshore drilling. I should probably know more about the full and specific details of this stuff, and admittedly when I'm debating people on politics I take the liberal position on these isssues. I donate to environmental groups and I volunteer for environmental causes. But I have to admit that a lot of it is much more reflexive to me as a liberal than because it's an issue for which I'm extremely passionate or well informed

1. Not me, but I'm sure it happens |

not everyone has enough time to fully explore and understand the ins and outs of all issues, so in those cases they'll defer to expert opinions.
Myself personally, if I don't read up on the specific issue, I refuse to take a position on it. Sometimes this leads me to differing in opinion from the majority of the left, but that's the great thing about our side. We can disagree about policy and have a discussion of the benefits and drawbacks, evidence, and theories, and do it rationally and intelligently (generally).

3. "Deferring to expert opinions"... |
|
That's actually a better description of what I was trying to get at. Thanks.
