NATIONAL CHECK IF I CAN VOTE DAY

I have sent this out and am putting it out there at various times of the day to make sure everybody on this site can see it.

I propose that we declare October 1, 2008 NATIONAL CHECK IF I CAN VOTE DAY. I am hoping that all progressive web sites, blogs and liberal organizations ie DU, HuffingtonPost, MoveOn.org, ACLU, NARAL, NOW etc. along with all Democratic Party county and state chairs and campaigns email, text and or phone their subscribers/supporters and urge them to check their voter registrations that day. Just yesterday there was a report that 300,000 people in New Jersey thought they had the ability to vote when in reality they didn't. Look at the feature story on this web site coming out of Michigan about forclosures and the purging of voter rolls. We all know the problems with Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004 and possibly New Mexico. I also propose that we have potluck house parties that night and screen a film about Republican vote theft.

I think that we can accomplish three goals by doing this 1) the practical side of it, get people who are most likely to be Obama supporters and also most likely to have the greatest vulnerability of having having their vote suppressed to check on their registration before the deadline approaches where nothing can be done about it. Most states have a 30 or 14 day deadline. 2) If we have enough of a critical mass we would have msm coverage of it and that would bring back the issue that the Republican stole votes in the past. 3) it would send a message to Republican County auditors and election workers that the Democratic Party will be much more vigilant and proactive in protecting the votes than previously.
