Republicans want to keep us dependent on fossil fuels. |
|
Make no mistake about what their main plans are regarding our energy problems. Yes they give lip service to solar and wind, but their main emphasis is drill drill drill, whether it be oil or natural gas, or mine mine mine, as in uranium, and coal.
But we will never be truly energy independent until we focus on sources of energy that can never ever ever run out and that are accessible to anybody and everybody.
That means the sun, the wind, geothermal, and the ocean.
Republicans want to keep us in thrall to big corporations that need scale to plunder the earth.
True independence means getting away from depending on these folks.

1. Fossil fuel - the stuff that McCain eats at mealtime. |
|
And you're right - they will never stop pushing for more drilling.

2. I'm not even much of an environmentalist |

But I HATE being dependent on oil companies for energy when with some economy of scale, I could put some solar panels up and say SCREW YOU.

3. I just got a quote for installation of a woodstove |
|
The stove was given to me free, a nice little unit. The installer wants $2600 to hook it up thru an existing chimney flue. I can't/won't do it, and even with free wood from my property I'm back to using oil.
We're fucked no matter what we do. If not by big oil, then by silly regulations and local laws.

The stove requires a 6" diameter 304 stainless steel liner up inside the chimney, about 25 feet worth, plus a flange plate at the top to secure the pipe, then additional stainless connector piping/mounts at the back of the stove.
Essentially, if the work isn't performed by a licensed installer, it's illegal and insurance won't cover any loss if something goes wrong.
Funny how I can burn any kind of wood at all in the open fireplace now, but woodstoves require all this extra crap.
I'm disgusted.

8. Yeah, I guess a woodburning stove isn't the sort of thing you'd like uninsured. |

Alaska's part of their election strategy for sure. Drill baby, Drill.
I was a democrat/very liberal since I was born but my only issue for the rest of my life is the environment. If ANY religious people or republicans would offer to help endangered species and clean up the planet I'd switch sides.. that's not gonna happen though! I'm democrat forever still.
