Dawn contemplation, 9/11/08, a long way from visions on a cave wall

Fully dressed
sitting in the dark
conserving energy
protecting income
awake, wide-eyed
perceiving the post post-modern world
as clearly as liquid crystals
illuminated
not mere shadows on a wall
but a billion points of light
visions on a flat screen
known to reveal high definition,
exquisitely real
perceptible prophecies
perils of dancing stars, swapping wives,
and future idols carefully chosen
extremely made over
mendacious muses
who once sold lye boiled in lard
proffer as lozenges their lies
warning me of dangers
of Them,
gray hair, under arm odor, yellow teeth
and the pitfalls of criticizing
lip-stick on a pig.
