Giants and Jets fans join uproar over stadium naming rights bid by firm with Holocaust ties

Football fans and Jewish groups are outraged over the prospect of a new Giants and Jets stadium being named for German insurer Allianz because of its Nazi ties in World War II.

The company insured the Auschwitz death camp and had a chief executive serving in Hitler's cabinet. The company is on the short list of those vying to slap their name on the Meadowlands stadium in New Jersey via a lucrative sponsorship deal.

MYERS: JETS, GIANTS DEAL WITH THE DEVIL

The possibility of what some saw as a former Third Reich enabler getting its name on their ballpark has some Big Blue and Gang Green fans vowing boycott.

"I think it's terrible, but that's the mighty dollar," Giants fan Keith Hayes, 33, said of the name.

1. And the President of the United States family had ties to the Nazis during WWII
it's a pity there wasn't an uproar over that.

3. No kidding. This is an interesting situation because of NY's lareg Jewish pop.

2. The more trouble they have with this stadium, the better
as far as I'm concerned.

They want a pretty new toy, and they want to extort their long-time fans to pay for it. I'd like to see them find few takers on that "deal" and no significant corporate support.

This is just another example of how little care they take about their fans and their community, I think.

4. As a Jets fan, although I agree with your sentiment, I am delighted to see the Jets
get out of the Meadowlands. Literally, a swamp.

5. Yeah, you have to wonder about that
no mass transit there, either. Drives my husband up a wall.

My other beef with his team (Giants) is the continued use of "NY". Let's see... you play and practice where? Oh, yeah, NJ! Typical treatment for NJ, though.

My husband's family has had season tix for years and years and years. No more. Not paying 5k each to keep them just so the rich boys can build themselves a fancy new place, and sell lots of luxury boxes... Ridiculous!
